| Naomi7835's Full Review: KitchenAid Food Chopper |
The main reason I purchased this KitchenAid food chopper was because my Hamilton Beach 2 speed, 3 cup Food chopper that I have isn't practical to be dragged out of my cabinet just to chop up an onion or two for a burger for lunch, or maybe a few cloves of garlic for a recipe. For bigger jobs it's ok, but for all of those small chopping jobs that I need to do on an occasion, the KitchenAid Food Chopper is sufficient, and gets the job done quickly.
I purchased the KitchenAid Food Chopper a while ago at our Lowe's Store for $14.99. Mine is black, but I have seen it in other stores in white, red and blue also.
FEATURES:
1)--It's made of a very sturdy plastic.
2)--Comes with a 1 cup transparent container, which also comes with a transparent pop on lid. This makes it handy for storing your chopped foods in later. The transparent container is attached to a round non-skid sturdy base which can be popped off for easy washing.
3)--The base is where you chop the food into, or you can remove the base and chop right onto your chopping board if you prefer. I prefer using the base on, because the non-skid base helps to keep the chopper in place while chopping food.
4)--The top housing unit has 6 stainless steel blades that rotate each and every time you depress the top knob down.
5)--The top knob that sits on top of the housing unit, is a generous size and fits nicely in the palm of my hand. The knob is rubberized, and I like the feel of it. It also feels very comfortable in my hand while I'm using it to do any of my chopping jobs.
6)--There is a small black plastic piece that's located on the inside of the housing unit on one side of the blades, which is called a food sweeper. What this does is, it keeps any food that your chopping from sticking to the sides of the container.
7)--The size of this base of the KitchenAid Food Chopper measures 3½ inches in diameter and the chopper is 8 3/4 inches high.
ASSEMBLING THE CHOPPER:
The chopper is very easy to assemble. The top housing unit that holds the blades screws into the transparent container, and then the transparent container can be popped into the non-skid base lid. It just takes me a few seconds to assemble, and then it's ready to start chopping.
FOODS THAT CAN BY CHOPPED IN THE KITCHEN AID CHOPPER:
Some things that I have tried and chopped up in the chopper are these:
Onions
Celery
Fruit
Green peppers
Nuts
Chocolate
Herbs
Boiled eggs for egg salad
Minced up cloves of garlic
HOW TO USE THE KITCHEN AID CHOPPER:
Place what you need to be chopped in the bottom base of the transparent container. Then place the housing blade unit on top of the container. While holding onto the chopper with one hand, you can then place the palm of your other hand over the top knob and push down once, and you'll have chopped food. If you want your food chopped finer a few more chops may be necessary. If your looking for minced food, you can push the knob down as many times as needed to get the right consistency that your looking for.
WARRANTY:
The KitchenAid Chopper comes with a one year Replacement Warranty plus a Lifetime Limited Warranty.
CLEANING:
After I'm done chopping any foods, I just unscrew the housing unit off from the container and empty the food out. The bottom base lid of the container, pops off easily. The chopper can then be washed out by hand in warm soapy water or it can be placed in the dishwasher for cleaning.
Of course caution should always be used when using or cleaning the KitchenAid Chopper.
The Chopper should always be allowed to dry completely after washing, before assembling it back together and stored.
I like to use the KitchenAid Chopper for mincing my garlic. Although I first bang the garlic with side of a knife to remove the skin from the garlic. You've probably seen many Chefs on TV do this too. Then the garlic can be placed in the chopper and minced fine for any recipes.
A few times I've chopped up a few small onions for a burgers for our lunch. Being the chopper is well contained, I don't get any burning in my eyes, or have that stinky onion smell on my hands. As you all know this will happen when your cutting onions by hand with a knife. Sure it does take a little doing getting the chopper ready, then do the chopping and then having to wash it out later. But it's still worth chopping in the KitchenAid Chopper and eliminating the burning of my eyes then having to cut the onion up by hand for me.
The KitchenAid Chopper is just the right size for all of my smaller chopping or mincing needs. I can tell you that this KitchenAid Chopper chopper has been used many times since I purchased it. I don't have to drag out my Hamilton Beach electric 3 speed Chopper for just those small chopping foods that I need.
One feature that I do like, is that the container is transparent and does come with a plastic fitting snap on lid. If I want to chop up something a head of time, I can place it in the container, and seal it with the air tight sealed lid and place it in the fridge until I'm ready to use it later in the day. The tight fitting snap on lid keeps my chopped contents fresh until I'm ready to sue it.
So far I haven't found any Cons with the KitchenAid Food Chopper, and I'm very happy with the results that I do get. It's a nice chopper for all of those small jobs that I do need from time to time in my kitchen.
MY FINAL NOTE:
The KitchenAid Chopper is easy to operate with just the tap of your hand. It's lightweight and very compact, while it eliminates mess and odor. It's small size is nice to be able to store in any small space, whether it's on a counter or in the cabinet, especially if you have limited counter or cabinet space. It's compact size makes it easy to take along on camping trips or it can be used in a RV when traveling. It would make a lovely gift for anyone for any given occasion.
Thanks for reading, and have a Great Weekend everyone!!
