Barefooter's Full Review: Kong Tuffy Chewers Small 3
A year ago, I was in Petsmart staring at the hundreds of toys in front of me when another customer came up and asked if she could help. She explained that she had four dogs at home. I told her about my active little puppy who discovered how to chew up the wicker basket that held my magazines in my bathroom.
"Oh I know the best toy for you!" she exclaimed. She pulled down a Kong Dog Toy and handed it to me. I looked at it and looked at her. How was this little rubber snowman-shaped bulb going to keep my puppy from chewing things around the house?
"You see this hole here? You put a treat in it or some peanut butter and your puppy will keep busy chewing on the rubber and attempting to get the treat out."
Skeptical, I placed the $4.99 toy in my cart and went off to buy some treats. When I arrived home, I removed the blue and white three-inch long Kong toy from the packaging and added the peanut butter that came with it. The hole in the end of the toy is just 3/4 of an inch wide but when squeezed together, can stretch open to an inch.
Sure enough, Kaycie came running and sniffed at the toy I placed in front of her. She put her paw on it and snapped it forward. A couple of sniffs and she was soon lying on the floor--gnawing and licking the inside of the Kong. The toy kept her busy for a while. I rescued what was left of my wicker basket and replaced it with a wire one.
If I know I'm going to be gone for a couple of hours, I give her the Kong with a treat inside. Sometimes I will fill it with peanut butter and other times I insert a beef strip and leave the end hanging out so that she bites off an immediate treat and works to get the rest of it. It gives her a little something to do for a while and provides a source of chewing.
I clean the Kong by soaking it briefly in warm water. The only con is that this is hard to clean if the peanut butter has hardened inside. A kid's toothbrush solves that problem for me.
I have seen Kong dispensers that roll out three Kongs at preset times. This is a great idea for dogs that are home alone for long periods of time.

Unfortunately, Kaycie has not outgrown her preference for wicker, so the wire basket remains.
