Pros: Best bass I've been able to find in portable headphones.
Cons: Becomes sore and uncomfortable after a while.
The Bottom Line: The best bass I've ever found. If you love to isolate your music from the outside world and immerse yourself in the world of your music, look no further!
skoey's Full Review: Koss The Plug Earbuds Consumer Headphones
Finally, after a long and exhaustive search for headphones with full, rich sound and bass, I've found what I have been looking for in The Plug by Koss. They provide virtual isolation from external sounds which allow you to hear more, if not all, of the recording -- sounds of which you were not previously aware! It's as if the music is live from your brain.
I purchased Koss The Plug because I am a music lover. Music is my life and since I don't own a car, I walk everywhere, and everywhere I go, I listen to my cd player. However, having said that, the ambience of actuality would compete with the sounds of my music. I needed isolation from the outside world. And I have found that in The Plug. I now walk with my new headphones completely immersed in my own world. All I hear is my music (and I can hear so much more of it!). Sounds of traffic and wind are virtually eliminated (a word of caution: due to the sound-isolation factor, one must remain alert of such hazards as vehicles and other pedestrians).
My main attraction to The Plug is its incredible bass. My previous headphones were Koss's Porta Pros which, until now, I thought had the best bass I had ever heard. However, The Plug's 10Hz-20,000Hz range is even boomier. Add to that the isolation feature of its innovative ear-plug design, and what results is an earphone with incredible sound and bass.
So what are the drawbacks of this product? Well, first of all, the earphones become quite (and sometimes very) sore after about an hour's use. Discontinuing use for a few minutes is necessary. Secondly, unless the earphones are plugged deep into your ear canal, the sound is mediocre, and - that said - proper insertion requires practice and patience. Thirdly, unless you're listening to your music at a loud volume - or the music itself is densely textured - you are going to wonder what the hell that noise is after a while. That would be the cable rubbing and smacking against you. Lastly, The Plug could stand to use a little more treble since things can sounds a little muddy and muffled. However, in my humble opinion, I prefer plenty of bass to a lack of treble, not vice-versa.
In summary, Koss's The Plug is the best ear/headphone for bass and music lovers. If you're as passionate about music as I am, and if you love music to flow through you, not into the actual world around you, this inexpensive product is your reason to look no further.
