marytara's Full Review: Lush Emperor of Ice Cream Buttercream
A few months ago a friend and I decided to take a trip a while back to the local (yeah..an hour away) LUSH store. While we were there the girl who was working must have really felt lonely because she kept making us samples and asking if we'd tried this or that. She ended up sending us each home with like 4 samples a piece, and not just any sample- they were practically full size product. One of the samples that we both got was this Emperor of Ice Cream buttercream.
About LUSH Emperor of Ice Cream
Emperor of Ice Cream is a buttercream. A buttercream is a cleanser that is like a very soft chunk of soap. I've tried a handful of buttercreams from LUSH, and I've found that I enjoy using them for a treat and something different than soap off the block. Buttercreams are known for containing a ton of moisturizing ingredients (butters and oils, hence the name - buttercream). LUSH describes this buttercream as follows: (from their website)
Orange blossoms and mangos luxuriously nourish and cleanse skin
The Emperor of Ice Cream cleansing buttercream has rich macadamia nut oil, mango butter and magnificently expensive rose and jasmine absolutes. We wrap it only in vine leaves because it makes your skin feel so lovely you'll want to walk around naked. The Emperor of Ice Cream is named after a poem by Wallace Stephens. We decided to take the title and create a cleansing buttercream with only the finest ingredients fit for a king.
The product is priced at $15.90 for a 7oz chunk ordered online (with a melt warning for hot weater), or in any size you desire if you are able to get to a LUSH brick & mortar store.
My Emperor of Ice Cream Experience
First of all, I knew already about this buttercream that it isn't supposed to smell like ice cream - so I knew ahead not to have that expectation. On the other hand, from the awesome ingredients that this contains I had lots of high hopes for this product. EOI buttercream contains vanilla pod infusion, macadamia nut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, orange blossom honey, coconut butter... Mmmm.. sounds amazing, right? Well, I feel like LUSH should have stopped while they were ahead. It also contains Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Rose, and Lavendar. Ewwww... stinky! The end result is that EOI smells pretty bad - very old ladyish to me. On a quick sniff test it seems 'ok' but when it mixes with hot water the scent intensifies and almost makes me nauseous. This is a real shame because aside from the scent it is pleasurable to use and provided adequate moisturization. Using it however, was nothing but torture because to me the scent was noxious. In the end, I am seriously glad that I didn't pay a cent for Emperor of Ice Cream. This is a LUSH product that I absolutely cannot give kudos too.
