bops_mom's Full Review: Ultra Products L'Occitane Shea Butter Rich Face Cr...
Back in November of 2006 I was browsing QVC.com looking for something new to try for my dry skin. I had grown tired of the fact that every time I found a good moisturizer, after about my second purchase it would become discontinued. This is especially frustrating for someone with skin as picky as mine. For some reason I wound up purchasing a try it type of kit from L’Occitane which included, among other things a very tiny (0.5 oz) tube of their Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream.
Product Information
L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream comes in a glass jar which holds 1.7 oz of product and currently sells for $38. The jar has a metal screw on/off lid. The product itself is a rather thick, heavy white cream. The scent is very mild and reminds of other shea butter products. If you’re familiar with L’Occitane’s amazing Shea Butter Hand Cream, it smells similar to that, only not nearly as strong. Once on my face the scent is pretty much gone.
According to L’Occitane this product contains 25% Shea Butter and thus it is for dry or dehydrated skin. If you're familiar with L'Occitane's Shea Butter Hand Cream - that product only has 20% Shea Butter. So yeah, this is seriously heavy duty stuff. L’Occitane claims that the hydration from this product lasts for 24 hours. (Claims / information taken off the packaging)
My Experience
My skin is very dry. It’s dry to the point where if I leave it alone and do nothing (no washing or applying of a moisturizer) I get visible dry patches in less than 24 hours time not to mention the tight and uncomfortable feeling. I'm not sure if that means my skin doesn't agree with L'Occitane's claim that this product hydrates for up to 24 hours or not.
My skin is also hyper sensitive. If a product has SPF – no matter what the product is (even Bare Essentials Bare Minerals that is supposedly so good for your skin) I will break out. That is a for sure thing. In addition, many other normal skin care ingredients (that I can’t even name) also break me out. As a general rule, my skin does not have breakouts, lest you are picturing a rather pimpled scattered face. I may get one or two on occasion, but the big break outs are always due to a product not agreeing with my skin. Needless to say this makes looking for skin care products interesting.
L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream has not caused any problems for my skin whatsoever. No break outs, no irritation. In fact, it has made my skin almost luminous (if I do say so myself). My skin looks fresh and healthy since I began my use of this product. It kind of amazes me that without this product my skin can look so terrible in about 24 hours time – with dry and tight patches. But if I use it twice daily (which is my typical regime) you’d be hard pressed to figure out that I have very dry skin.
I mentioned above that my first exposure to this product was back in November 2006. I have used L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream as my skin care moisturizer every day since then. I immediately knew this was the right moisturizer for me. The results were instant and impressive. The price for this product is not cheap but it is pretty typical for higher end skin care moisturizers. Plus with skin as dry and sensitive as mine I dare not change things up as long as this product is working so well for me. The fact that one jar lasts me a good 6 months helps with the sticker shock a great deal.
And so
For me and my dry skin L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream is a godsend. Unless my skin type changes and becomes combination or normal I plan to stick with L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream as my daily moisturizer. If you have dry or dehydrated skin and haven’t yet found a product that really gives your skin the deep down moisturizing it needs to recover – I recommend you try out L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream. It just might be exactly what you’re looking for.
