Cutie_pi's Full Review: L'Oreal Bare Naturale Gentle Mineral Eye Shadow 31...
In recent years, it seems the mineral makeup crazy has hit a fevered pitch. While many of us have been long-time fans of the Bare Escentuals line, more commercial/mass market brands have hit the market with a slew of new mineral infused products.
L'Oreal was the first mass market brand I noticed jumping on this trend, and as such, they've gone far beyond just foundation and powder, to include in their lines blush, bronzer, powder eyeliner and eye shadow. Never having been a big fan, however, of loose powder liner, I hadn't yet ventured to try these new products.
However, on a recent trip to my favorite drugstore, I came across a 'gift set' that proved too irresistable for me. It included the Bare Naturale Eye Shadow in Bare Olive, the Liner in Black, and the mascara, also in black.
Now here's where I'll admit I sometimes commit what's known as a fashion faux pas -- occasionally I match my eye shadow to my eyes. Yeah, yeah, I know, contrasting colors are supposed to bring out the color better, but hey, I LIKE my eye color... so when I saw the Bare Olive shade, I was intrigued (as it's about as close to my greeny gold eyes as I've ever seen!).
So a couple days after I purchased the set, I decided to 'play' with it a bit, and set about drawing an eye on my hand, complete with shadow, liner and a swat of mascara. I was merely trying to get a feel for the ease of application, and the intensity of the color.
To give you an idea of the application, you must understand the container it comes in: it's a small powder shaker, with a cap that pops off to reveal the brush. You then unscrew the brush to reveal the pot of loose powder shadow, with a sifter top. Before removing the lids, a gentle tap will transfer a small amount of color to the topside of the sifter. Then you gently dab the brush into the powder, tap off the excess, and sweep the color across your lids.
So now, with a successful eye on the back of my right hand, I went a step further, and gave my eyelids a gentle sweep of color. Hmmmm.... nice... a hint of shimmer, but not overly glittery. The color was very subtle, and very sheer. It didn't scream "GREEN!" but rather just gave a dusky hint of color. I swept another bit of color across my lids, which intensified the color, and the glam factor.
The effect is very light, very sheer, and yet doesn't feel at all dry or chalky. It has a very silky feel to it, and even with extended wear, doesn't cake or crease.
For daytime, I like just a very sheer single 'sweep' of color, whereas for evening, 2 or even 3 sweeps achieve a deeper, smoky look. Coupled with the accompanying liner and mascara, the look is downright bewitching, and very simple to apply.
