Pros: This is typical French bistro food. The decor is right.
Cons: More expensive than one would expect for this type of restaurant.
The Bottom Line: A good place for lunch with a friend if you are gallery hopping and want more than a museum cafeteria.

| afrprods's Full Review: La Goulue |
The decor is perfect, although the clientele is visibly more affluent than one would probably find in a similar-looking place in Paris. It's dark wood with banquettes and walls lined with mirrors. It's noisy; the acoustics aren't great, although in keeping with the old-fashioned decor. The food is, like the decor and general ambience, traditional and unpretentious. La Goulue doesn't try to do more than it should, and is, on the whole reliably good with the sort of no-nonsense service you'd get in Paris. Although it's more expensive than this type of place should be, when you consider the rents of this Upper East Side, Madison Avenue neighborhood, it doesn't seem out of line.
