After trying out the Cyber Acoustics® 3-piece speaker set (low price and shows it, subwoofer rattles and distorts even at low levels...) I immediately returned them and snagged a store-demo Labtec LCS-2414 set (not LCS-2414i) Well to say the least I was first not impressed by the small size of the satellites, so I hooked them up to my Labtec Spin-70's. The bass was resonating and annoying at first; I figured out that my big main speakers were putting out bass also (they're nice speakers) and kind of "helping out" the low frequencies from the subwoofer, thus making it really sound bad. So I hooked it up to the satellites and voila! Great sound! The satellites put out nice mid range, the high frequencies could use a little help from an equalizer, however. The subwoofer puts out nice warm bass, surprising bottom end for such a small speaker (4"). So, in general,
Pros:
1) Good sound quality in a small package
2) Price is right
3) Tiny subwoofer can run with larger models
4) You can stick the satellites almost anywhere
5) Low distortion levels at pretty much all volume levels
Cons:
1) You have to reach under your desk to turn it on
2) Wires are needlessly too long
3) Vocals don't sound quite natural (kind of similar to a P.A. speaker, could use more mid-bass)
4) Where's the headphone hookup?
5) Strange audible buzzing noise from volume-controlling satellite
This is a great starter set for PC audiophiles, the sound quality is very good for the price. The subwoofer puts out a pleasing amount of bass for it's compact size and those cute little satellite speakers are pretty cool too. You can use this system while you save up for your Boston, Klipsch, or Monsoon system and have some fun while you're at it.
