| TxMommy929's Full Review: Lift and Lock Swing |
There is something about swings isn't there? Children love them -- and truth be told so do we. We all loved how the baby swing lulled our infants to sleep, we love the look of glee on our toddlers faces as we swing them at the park, and as adults we love to partake in the child's sport whether it is at the park, on a porch swing, or in our own yards.
Children love to swing. Your child is going to love whatever swing you buy them, but you could do better then the Fisher Price Lift and Lock Swing.
This swing is a two piece red and yellow plastic swing. It is suspended by two polyropes and comes equipped with metal hooks for attachment to an existing playstructure, or properly mounted on a porch ceiling or tree. Always read the directions regarding proper installation of your swing.
The good aspects of this swing are twofold. One, it has a high back. This high back provides good support and a sense of safety. The second positive is the drainage holes in the seat. The seat is usually dry by the time you get out after a storm, hence you don't need an extra hand for a towel.
Not needing an extra hand for a towel is fortunate, because you are going to need an extra arm to operate this swing. The lift portion of the lift and lock swing lifts up and stays in place. Envision this with me, please. Your twenty-five pound two year old wants desperately to get in the swing. You hold her on one hip, and with one arm, while you lift the snap down guard. The guard is up, you need to steady the swing, place your toddler in the swing, and make certain the guard doesn't bomp her in the head. Believe me -- this is not easy.
The bad does not end there. In the Texas heat, the buckle of the belt quickly became brittle and broke, rendering the belt useless. Fisher Price would not mail a replacement belt, and suggested a replacement swing -- I replaced the swing, with another brand. Some of the newer models of this swing do not even have a belt! While the lift and lock guard is a safety retainer, a belt should be a prime consideration in your search for a swing.
The ugly is a factor too. Yes, the red and yellow is eyecatching. However, the recurrent motion of the lift and lock piece up and down the polyropes frays the ropes making them both an eyesore and compromising their strength.
In my opinion, a swing is one of the best purchases you can make for your toddler's enjoyment. However, this swing is not the best of the bunch. I would recommend reading several reviews of the Graco High Back Toddler Swing before finalizing your purchase decision.
