I always have something on my lips... lipstick, lipgloss or lip balm. I hate bare, dry lips! While lip balms can be somewhat moisturizing to dry lips, they just don't cut it when winter rolls around and my lips get insanely dry and even cracked. In the past I've tried lip treatments like chapstick and carmex but was never impressed. I saw a new one from Neosporin advertised last year so I thought I'd try it since I've only ever been pleased with Neosporin's products.
Neosporin Lip Treatment comes in a .25 oz squeeze tube and the tip is round and flat so it's easy to apply. The product is labeled as a "Lip Protectant and Cold Sore Treatment". The active ingredients are Allantoin 1.5% and Pramoxine HCI 1%. I have no idea what those are but as long as it works I really don't care.
The product itself reminds me a lot of the Neosporin ointment in color and texture. It's not quite as thick or sticky though. It glides onto my lips very easily and feels smooth and somewhat wet. It's not sticky or tacky which I like. It has a slight cooling and tingling effect that is very soothing. It also has a very slight scent. It's not really strong or overpowering but the best I can describe it is to say that it reminds me of a citrus scent, maybe a little orange-y. Maybe even an orange popsicle or orange flavored drink.
The directions state that you shouldn't apply it more than 3-4 times in one day. When my lips are in really bad shape I usually apply it 2 times a day. Once in the afternoon and again at bedtime. A little bit goes a long way so this tube lasts a while.
The Verdict
When I break this stuff out, you should know that my lips are in BAD, BAD shape at that point. They are usually cracking and raw when I use this stuff. Instantly the product soothes my lips and I am quickly relieved. Unlike other lip treatments out there, that's not where this product's power stops. Once it wears off you don't have to keep reapplying it for that temporary relief. This stuff HEALS my lips! And fast! I can use it twice during the day (including at bedtime for overnight treatment) and by the next day, my lips are almost completely healed. After the second day's application, they are healed by the next morning. The first time I used this product I was really shocked at how well and fast it worked!
I keep a tube of this on hand at all times now. It is absolutely an amazing product! It makes my lips feel better instantly and then it continues working to heal them amazingly fast, usually within 24 hours.
If you have dry, cracked lips or cold sores you should definitely give this product a try! It has worked miracles for me.
