When my neighbor moved out, she was getting rid of a lot of stuff to make the move easier since they were traveling by car. One of the things she was getting rid of was the Litter Maid Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box. She has three cats, one adult and two kittens and said it worked great for her, knowing we have two cats, she gave it to me and I've been using it for about a month now.
What came with it
Litter Box - measuring about 34"L x 17"W x 9"H with the ramp (27"L without the ramp), the bottom tray of the litter box is easily removed for ease of cleaning. The size of the box is for large or multiple cat households like mine.
AC Transformer - UL approved for use with an outlet (also can run on 8 D batteries)
Cat Paw Cleaning Ramp - this is a ribbed mat that attaches to the litter box, it is supposed to remove the litter from your cats paws as they leave the litter box.
12 Waste Receptacles - These are made of plastic and they come with lids for a less smelly disposal. These are fairly easy to put in and take out, although I have had a couple of small spills when removing them from the box.
Cleaning Brush - To help with cleaning the rake and getting in-between the teeth of the rake.
How does it work?
Well, first you need to use a premium brand clumping cat litter or they won't guarantee it will work properly, we use Arm & Hammer Super Scoop and it hasn't caused any problems.
The idea behind the Litter Maid Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box is that your cat goes in the box, tripping the sensor, does his/her business, and about 10 minutes later the rake moves out and rakes the waste into the receptacle. This means no more scooping the litter box for you and by putting it in the receptacle, less odor too.
Cleaning
Cleaning the box is fairly easy to do, unsnap the top part, take it off the tray, empty and wash the tray. The brush comes in handy for cleaning the rake when any litter or anything gets stuck in the rake.
Cats experience
Well, lets just say I'm glad I didn't buy this, not that it isn't a good product, just one of my cats refuse to use it and still uses her old litter box. Cuddles, my 6 year old Siamese mix, seems to be afraid of the litter box, probably because of the noise. Frisky was hesitant at first, but he uses it with ease now, sometimes he will come running when he hears it start the raking process so he can watch it.
We have had only one problem with it so far. Frisky loves to fling the litter around, he always has, and he has a habit of piling the litter up by the rake, causing it to jam. All I do then is take our old scoop and kind of smooth out the litter a bit and then it will go through the raking process. He has only done this a few times and it is just a mild inconvenience.
It seems to be controlling the odor fairly well and we usually empty out the receptacle about every other day with just Frisky using it. The receptacles are rather expensive at about $15 for 12, so I tend to wash them out and get at least two uses out of them before throwing them away. If you're really careful, you can reuse them at least once more.
My recommendation
If cleaning the litter box daily is a chore you hate, you may benefit by getting the Litter Maid Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box. It is so much nicer just emptying out a receptacle than scooping out the litter box, although I do still have to do that with our other litter box.
A lot will depend on your cats, if they are really skittish and don't like loud noises, they probably won't want to use it, but if you have an easy going cat, this just may be the perfect product. The Litter Maid Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box is designed for large cats and multiple cat households, and although we only have one cat using it, it is working fairly well for us. Frisky is a 14 pound tabby and he doesn't seem to be crowded when using it, he can do all his twisting and turning around in the litter box with no problem.
If you hate cleaning the litter box and have more than one cat, you might want to try the Litter Maid Mega Advanced Deluxe Litter Maid Litter Box. If you have only one cat, you may want to try the smaller model, either way it does make cleaning the litter box less of a chore.
