| marrone's Full Review: Little People Animal Sounds Farm |
When my wife wanted to get my son a noisy farm several months ago, I figured, "Oh great, something else to sing "Old McDonald"" to. But it turned out a lot better than that.
This is a Little People product, so already I knew it must be pretty good. I wasn't disappointed, and neither was my son (who is now 19 months).
The Little People Farm cost about $30. It is painted bright red (the stereotypical farmhouse). From the outside, it looks like a farmhouse, but it actually opens up, to allow play inside.
The farm comes with a, pig, sheep, horse, rooster, chicken, cow, a scarecrow, windmill, and a farmer. The scarecrow, rooster, and windmill are not really figures, but they "plug in" to various parts of the farm...the rooster goes on top of the farmhouse and when twisted, makes a clicking sound. The other pieces can be considered "little people" figures, and some actually have the hole at the bottom, so your child can use them in other sets (I for one enjoy putting the chicken on the ferris wheel in the amusement park set (sold separately)). There is even a trailer that can be hooked onto the horse.
Noises
The farm requires 3 AA batteries (not included). They will last a long time...I have yet to replace them. These batteries control the sounds that come out of the farm. These include a chicken clucking, horse neighing, pig oinking, a sheep baaaa-ing, as well as some music that plays when one puts a figure on the "welcome mat" in the house. The other sounds are triggered by placing a figure on a weight sensitive area related to the animal (for example, there's a chicken's nest, and a pig's mud-pit), or by opening up a barn door (for the horse).
Construction
The farm is constructed pretty well. It is two stories tall, with most of the action happening on the ground floor, and a bedroom upstairs for the farmer (with a bed that sort of acts like a hide-away). Nothing has broken yet, despite my son throwing it all over the place and climbing on it. No real assembly is required...just a small extension piece needs to be snapped in once (separated so it could fit in the box). All the edges are smooth, like most of the little people products, so nothing to get cut on.
My son loves this set. I look forward to getting the expansion pack.
