| foodallergy's Full Review: Little Tikes Play House |
After waiting years to find an "affordable" playhouse for my small daughter, I found this one at a yard sale. It had seen it's share of playdays--it had become very faded, but it was still in great condition. I have no idea how old it is, but it's obviously been very loved.
This all-weather playhouse has become the most popular place on the block. While the big kids are playing soccer or water balloons, the younger ones slip inside to have their own fun. They usually bring their snack inside, and four little ones fit comfortably inside.
Inside, there are some great sticker pictures, which add to the "home sweet home" atmosphere. There's a flip up table, which lets the kids pretend to serve "tea". When they are done, they just flip it back down. There's also a pretend phone, which is probably the most popular item in there.
My favorite part is the shade that it offers in the hot sun! We don't have many trees in the backyard, so this offers a cool place to rest when the sun gets too hot.
Other good qualities? There's a convenient half-door, which gives the kids a chance to "close their door", yet you can still see inside. There are two windows (one on each side) that have flip-out shutters, and a bright red chimney with a window in the center. Whereever you are, you still have a chance to see the little ones without being obvious.
The bigger kids, however, don't fit in there very well, and it often causes a squabble with the younger set. The big guys (and girls) like to dive in one window, and then dive out the next... or they like to climb on the roof. It seems to hold up well, but I don't like them up there. I'm always nervous that it might fall down or something.
Assembly and storage are also great features. When we moved, it was easy to take apart, and it laid down flat in the truck (except the roof--which mostly laid down flat.) It was light enough to move... and I could carry the pieces by myself, too. Then assembly was quick, as well.
