| Rufster's Full Review: Logitech Z-560 4 Speakers |
Want a high quality set of speakers for your computer or home entertainment system without paying a hefty price? If so, these are the speakers for you.
Overview
The Logitech Z 560 system comes packed with an 8" diameter subwoofer with wood enclosure that has 188 watts RMS power, and 4, 53 watt RMS each satellites, delivering a max output of 400 watts RMS! It's also THX certified with M3D technology that boosts your surround sound performance. Each satellite has a removable cloth grill and sadly, no tweeter. The woofer is huge but fits neatly under desks and in corners.
Specifications
Here are some of the specifications that are not listed above:
System Frequency Response: 35Hz - 20kHz
Signal-To-Noise Ratio: > 75 dB
Input Impedance: > 5,500 ohms
You will also find a headphone jack, and a SoundTouch Control Center that allows you to crank up the volume by a simple nob. It does not come with treble control or a remote.
The Sound
My brother got these speakers awhile back... and with me only using 30 watt systems, I was amazed. The subwoofer is comparable to the one in our home theater system and the satellites never sounded tinny even at max volumes. No distortion what-so-ever. Like a dream.
I'd put the subwoofer on the ground or some kind of secure surface because it will shake the hell out of it! The satellites are best heard with the volume levels tweaked a bit with the grills off (be careful though). It is also recommended to place the satellites so the maximum cord lengths are used.
Tips
Some complain of no treble control, well, if you are on a computer, there is treble control. For Windows users, look down on your Start Menu bar on the right and look for a picture of a speaker. Double-click that icon and click "Advanced" where Play Control volume is at. This allows you to change the levels of bass and treble. You can also use Winamp for music which has an equalizer.
The satellites can be mounted on walls, which is a great feature. Just screw the base of each satellite into a wall and you're done.
Playing with sound levels is important. The speakers will not sound their best if they aren't tweaked a little. Try moving the subwoofer and satellites around and fit your best locations. Don't be afraid to crank them up either!
Last but not least, I'd recommend buying new speaker wire that's of a higher quality than what they give you. You originally have some cheap, skinny wire... which angers most users.
Oh yes... and if you have a SoundBlaster Live! card, try searching for LiveWare 3.0 and download it. The software dramatically improves sound quality, and adds effects to it.
The Good
Don't spend $300+ on a 400-500 watt system! You're bound to find these speakers at a price ranging from $130-200. The sound you get is worth what you pay, and it's a great price.
Logitech is a great, reliable company that makes some pretty good stuff. These speakers top their competitors and I recommend the buy if you ever get interested.
The Bad
The low quality speaker wire is a big hinder. It's worth it to buy new wire that will greatly improve the quality of your satellites. They are also heavy, as with all systems of its class, so be careful!
The Bottom Line
The top two competitors are the Altec Lansing 641s and the Klipshe ProMedia 4.1s. Both are beaten due to the price, so look no further.
