Not worth the full price. The best rechargeable mouse. The dock should be as substantial as the mouse but it's junky. If you buy it on sale, then it's ok.

The Logitech MX Revolution Mouse is the top of the line mouse in Logitech's series of cordless mouse. The main feature attracting me to this mouse is that it is rechargable. I was tired of having to change the batteries in my mouse every few months. I ordered the mouse from Buy.com with a $20 rebate bringing the price down from $60 to $40. From the pictures, the mouse looks great, but here's what you don't see from the pictures...
1. Cheap feeling dock - Since this is a rechargeable mouse, it comes with a dock to charge the mouse. The dock, which is rarely displayed online, is really cheap feeling. It's a light weighted cone shaped dock. The light weight and the cone shape (similar to a styrofoam cup), is easy to tip over. When you dock the mouse, you usually have to hold the dock so that it doesn't move. A mouse of this quality should have had a nice heavy dock that you can just place the mouse into without holding the dock.
2. Docking grooves - When you dock the mouse, there is a small groove to guide the mouse into the charging pins. I think this could have been better designed. The guide is a small rectangle that is shorter than an inch. Sometimes it takes a few tries to dock the mouse into the charger. If it were a triangle shape groove, then it probably would've been easier to dock.
3. Scroll Wheel - A lot of what you're paying for in this high end mouse is a special mechanism in the middle scroll wheel. Most users are used to a clicky click feeling when scrolling up and down with the scroll wheel. This mouse has a special mechanism so that if you scroll the wheel fast, then click click goes away. So the scroll wheel becomes free spinning like a roller skate wheel. When you let the wheel stop, then the clicks re-engage. I absolutely hated this. I like it when the scroll wheel clicks when scrolling up and down. You can look in the options to turn this feature off so that the mouse never goes into the free spin mode. However, when you purchase this mouse, this free spinning mechanism is largely what you're paying for.
4. Thumb scroll wheel - Under your thumb, there is a second scroll wheel. The software defaults this scroll to switching between applications. The equivalent of doing "ALT-TAB". That would have been great... However, when you use the thumb scroll wheel, a cheap looking windows box pulls up to let you scroll through the applications to select one. Then you select a application to jump to in this cheap looking window. Because of this, I would rather "ALT-TAB" since it's much faster. It would have been nice if this thumb scroll just did the ALT-TAB and the reverse ALT-TAB. Because of this, I really don't use the thumb scroll wheel.
5. Receiver - The USB receiver is just the run of the mill, about 2.5 inch USB receiver. I would argue that for a high end mouse, they should have included the NANO receiver that comes with their laptop mouse. The NANO receiver is smaller than a dime. Or.. Logitech should have included a USB extension cord like from their keyboard sets. The USB extension cord is really nice because if your computer is not near where your mouse is, you can use it to move the receiver to closer to your mouse for better reception. It also allows you to pull the receiver out when you want to use it for another computer. For instance, I use this mouse with my desktop. But I sometimes pull the receiver out and put it into my laptop. I purchased a USB extension cord so that it's easier to move the receiver around rather than reaching behind my computer. However, this extension cord is found included in many Logitech keyboard/mouse sets.
Now on to the good features which is everything else... :) 1. Battery indicator - There's a LED lit battery indicator so that you can see the battery level.
2. It doesn't get anymore ergonomic than this! It's a very comfortable mouse especially for large hands. Because of the shape, it's for right handed mouse users only.
3. There are forward and back buttons that are very helpful. It's best used for moving forward and back on webpages. The forward and back buttons do not work on all applications like XP's Windows Media Player... however, the buttons work for more applications in Windows Vista. You are able to customize these buttons for each application, but most folks don't go to the extent to customize these settings.
4. Sleek design - It's a high quality mouse in terms of feel, weight, and clicking. The scroll wheels have a rubber strip on it and have these great grooves on it.
5. On/Off switch. There's a convenient on/off switch on the back of the mouse in case you want to turn it off. However, since it's rechargeable, it's not really that useful.
In conclusion, I think it's a great mouse. There are some things that could be improved upon and unfortunately, you don't find these things out until you've purchased the mouse. They should show the dock in their ads so that you can see how junky it is. Overall, I don't think it's worth the price tag. However, if you can get it on sale with a rebate and don't mind customizing the setup to your liking, then it may be the mouse for you.
