| jenscookie's Full Review: Mattel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Wiza... |
My daughter doesn't know who Hermione Granger is. That's because I don't think 4 year olds should see movies meant for older kids. As for reading the book- James and the Giant Peach was getting a little to intense for us, so I think we'll wait awhile. Of course, I am a big fan of the series myself.
That said, my daughter loves this doll, which she received as a birthday gift, purely on her looks, charm, and incredible flexibility. This Hermione comes with a very sweet bracelet and some cardboard Sweet Shop accessories which my daughter ignored- not knowing the joys of the Harry Potter candy milleu.
Hermione, how can I move thee, let me count the ways.
1. Head moves side to side
2. Shoulders and elbows rotate
3. Torso rotates at waist
4. Legs rotate at hip
5. Knees bend
6. Foot rotates at ankle joint (points toes beautifully)
Her body is flexible enough to sit a horse beautifully, and if only I had a Draco Malfoy or Millicent Bulstrode doll, we'd see what kind of kick-boxing moves this little gal has!
Her freckled face is a little big for her body, a feature of seemingly all Mattel dolls modeled on real people. She has very pretty brown eyes with long lashes and a subtly pink mouth in a toothy smile. My daughter thinks she is lovely, and especially admires her long, Bo Derek-like hair (it looks like it was cornrowed, then uncornrowed). In body, Hermione looks like a pre-teen girl. The doll overall resembles those in Mattel's literary series "I dream when I read" (or something along those lines) of Heidi, Jo, Fern and Anne of Green Gables.
Her clothes are very nicely done and include a blue knit turtleneck, suede-like brown velveteen skirt, and multicolored knit jacket in perfect colors for fall. She had long, above the knee socks and adorable Mary Jane school shoes. This doll can actually stand (important for my child) as she has no Barbie foot arch and no high heels! Her underwear is painted on.
Hermione, who is both the smartest and most hardworking student at Hogwarts, is an excellent role model and sure to be a favorite. But kids don't need to be Harry Potter fans yet to enjoy this doll. Don't give this toy to anyone under 3, and really, a mature 4 is the lowest end of the age range for this toy. Her legs and arms could be broken by rough play.
I wish more characters in the series were made into dolls like this, but Hermione is the stand out character in the series for most girls.
