With so many options and so much technology going into golf balls these day I try a lot of different ones. I play to a handicap of 15 and as a middle of the pack sort of golfer I am looking for any way to play better golf.
Firstly, I am not a long hitter so the first thing I look for in a ball is distance. The Maxfli XS Tour is a very long ball and up there with the longest on the market today. The first time I used it I was impressed with the distance and feel you get off the driver and long irons.
So why don't I like this ball?
The main reason is that the ball has no durability at all. They ball it wrecked after 3 holes, then you have to replace it. Even if you don't lose any of them, you go through a dozen in 2 rounds. There is no value for money.
Another reason is that the ball has low spin for a supposed "tour" ball. Even with a full swing of the pitching wedge the ball lands and rolls forward. There isn't even any spin with a sand wedge.
Finally, the ball doesn't have any stability in the wind. A lot of the tour balls made these days are designed to stay relatively low of the driver and have a stable ball flight. This ball doesn't. It has a very high launch angle with the driver and long irons. This is sometimes very handy because you get the extra carry distance needed for some shots but I play on a very windy course and I need a ball that has a stable ball flight.
This ball will never end up in my bag.
