| eclipse05's Full Review: Maytag MFI2568AES Stainless Steel (25 cu. ft.) Bot... |
I bought this refrigerator because we remodeled our kitchen and "needed" all new appliances and I particularly wanted the Maytag Gemini range. So, all of my appliances are stainless steel Maytag. We've had it about 9 months now.
I'd had a side by side for about 15 years and while I prefer them to standard refrigerators, I didn't like the configuration very much. I liked the idea of the french doors but didn't want to sacrifice my in-door ice and water dispensers. This appliance combined both features - french doors AND ice and water in the door!
Starting from the outside, I love the look of this appliance. Its beautiful. I also like some of the "upgraded" features that my old one didn't have like the child lock on the dispenser, the door alarm - loud enough that I've been on my third floor and heard it beeping to let me know that the door is open, and the light sensor so that the light under the water dispenser can turn itself off during the day.
The inside is awesome b/c its wide and the shelves are easy to arrange. I love the elevator shelf and have used it several times as needed to drop or lower the shelf above where my bottles of wine, juice, etc sit to accommodate an open wine bottle w/ a cork reinserted.
It comes with pull out shelves, but I never use them. I do like the "no-spill" feature of the shelves though. Nothing worse than thawing out meat and ending up w/ gross meat juices dripping down all the shelves. The glass shelves are easy to clean.
To date we haven't had any problems, but there are several irritating things about this appliance.
The first is there are several cold spots. Things placed next to the ice maker, in the door chill center and in the deli drawer can and do freeze. I've set my interior temperature to 40 instead of the factory set of 38 degrees F as a result. I've lost MANY vegetables and herbs because they've frozen and gone bad. My milk also sometimes freezes on the door. Not so bad, but could be irritating.
As much as I like the idea of the deli drawer, I rarely use it. I'd prefer to have more shelf space in lieu of the deli drawer. Maybe its just my lifestyle and grocery purchases though. It has come in handy when I've needed to hide something from hubby! He never looks in there! But, neither do I =)
I love the freezer on the bottom. Its nice to be able to look down and see what's in there w/o bending or worse yet squatting. And, I find the capacity of the freezer to be deceptively large. I'm VERY impressed with what I've been able to fit in that thing!
This is a BIG refrigerator. We struggled to get it in my kitchen and had to remove the baseboards off the wall in order to squeeze it through! Also, once it was in place, I really wished we'd bought the counter depth version - and I NEVER thought I'd pay more for a smaller appliance!
I have no complaints about the ice production, but I did notice that the capacity is much smaller than my old side by side. Its been sufficient for my family though (2 adults, 1 child). I like the integrated filter - my old fridge was so old that I had to put a filter on the wall behind it!
So, overall, I'd probably purchase it again. I wouldn't say that I love it, but I am satisfied w/ my purchase.
