Mom2TyZick's Full Review: McCormick Ground Oregano .75oz
Oregano. That all important spice for making Greek and Italian foods pop. I like to buy my spices in the smallest containers possible to ensure freshness. It takes less time to use and therefore leaves less in the jar to sit around and become stale.
Oregano is strongly scented and tastes bitter and has a very strong flavor. The moment you open your new jar of oregano, you'll notice that it is covered by a paper and foil seal, which preserves the freshness of the dried herb. Once you remove this, you will notice a very musty, minty and grassy smell. Sounds unpleasant, I know, but it transforms tomato sauce into marinara!
The new design on these tops are something to behold. It is ingenious, really, and I can't imagine why no one thought of it before now. This oregano has a flip top that allows you to sprinkle the oregano on pizza or pasta (or whatever you like) and you can unscrew the top if you need to measure a larger amount (teaspoons). The old design simply had the red screw-on top and a cheap plastic cover with holes to shake. If you wanted to measure out any, you had to pop off the thin plastic top, which was actually cumbersome and reattach when finished. This new designs saves time and fingernails! I've broken several trying to pry the cheapie plastic inner cap off. McCormick is the only brand, to my knowledge, that has this new design.
