The Big Unit, Randy Johnson, first go around with the Arizona Diamondbacks is captured tremendously in McFarlane Toys, Series 1, Sportspicks action figures. Randy Johnson, the monster left handed pitcher, is presented in his purple and grey pinstripe uniform, staring down the batter, striking the classic pitching pose.
Baseball has always been one of Todd McFarlane's true loves and I think that is why he puts in so much time and detail into his MLB work. The Randy Johnson statue is no exception. McFarlane Toys worked closely with Major League Baseball their first full-blown MLB-endorsed series of action figures, first since, I believe, Starting Line-up by Kenner. Each player is in full team uniform with the proper logos, colors and equipment. Each of the eight figures in this initial line is sculpted in an action pose and includes a base.
Randy Johnson, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher, No. 51, is one of the games best, and most intimidating pitchers. This figures shows the Big Unit in full windup, detail to his pants above his spikes. Facial hair is detailed perfectly along with the curve on the brim of the cap. Johnson's base is, naturally, the pitching mound.
