Killa_T's Full Review: Microsoft Intelli Optical (D58-00046) Mouse
My ball mouse has finally been overtaken by the dust bunnies that live in it. The ball barely turns, and the end is near for it. I knew that it was time to replace it. I began browsing around for different mice to take it's place. I found this little guy on bestbuy.com. They were having a sale on it, and I picked it up for around 35 dollars. It was mailed to me in about 3 days, which I thought was pretty good. The first thing I noticed about it, was the ease of installation. I can be hooked up via USB, or PS/2. I went with the PS/2 because that's how my old mouse was hooked up. The software that comes with this mouse is easy to use, except when it comes to picking the mouse that you have. There are about 5 different optical mice, and I wasn't really sure which one I had. Close inspection of the box revealed the exact model that I had. Once I got it up and running, I had to check out the various surfaces that I could use this mouse on. My pants, the chair, and the wall all passed the test. Then I got into playing around with the intelli-mouse software. All the buttons can be set to whatever you desire. I like to set the two side buttons to alt, and tab. That way I can change programs without using the keyboard and without clicking down in the taskbar. The default setting for these buttons are back and foward in your browser.
Overall I think this is a great mouse. I have had it now for about 3 months, and haven't had a problem with it yet. I have also ran three different operating systems since then, and haven't had any compatibility problems.
