MoonBeam1965's Full Review: Microsoft Xbox 360 Core System White Console
I love this system! Some of the features were a bit difficult to figure out but I still love my X-Box! (I am great with the games but husband sets up system, I didn't really understand the various plugs, etc.)
With the need for save cards mostly eliminated, the hard drive comes into play next. I have yet to get an error (in over two years?) saying I am out of space and there's at least 4 serious gamers using our console. I love that! (I still have PS save cards all over my home!) The only time I've used the save cards for the X-Box was when I wanted to continue a game on someone else's system.
You can view movies on it, there's a feature that allows you to play music with video games although I haven't really tried to figure out how to use that yet. I still consider that an awesome feature because sometimes video game music gets annoying, especially if you've been playing for awhile.
I've noticed that the unit doesn't heat up nearly as bad as some other units in the past have. My X-Box came in handy with my teenaged son as well, we don't live in the best neighborhood so it was a lot of entertainment for him, and he never seemed to get bored! (You can learn about all of the specs here at their official website http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/xbox.htm )
I have played music on my X-Box from store bought CDs as well as ones I've burned on my computer and it's never rejected a CD. I love using the music feature, it eliminates the need for an additional CD player in the room that it's in. There are lots of titles for games of all genres that are exclusively for this system. I find that refreshing because anybody can clone a game and call it theirs, X-Box gives you an avenue to play in that not everyone else can enjoy.
I have multiple systems in my house and the X-Box is my favorite one. The controllers are slightly heavy, but they're tough too, their after market ones feature padded grips that keep them from sliding out of your grasp too easily. This makes the X-Box even better suited for myself as well as others who might have small hands. The graphics are excellent, the processor speeds things up quite nicely and allows the graphics to roll smoothly instead of choppy like some other systems.
As for sound, we have our system on a surround sound setup and there's just nothing quite like the roar of the Fable Arena Crowd as you fight your way through to victory! You can really get the walls rumbling with the sounds that come from this little box.
I will say it's a little bigger than I like my systems to be, with everyone else downsizing things, the X-Box is the largest console that I'm aware of on the market. It balances precariously on our coffee table because it is so large.
(*UPDATE*) I can't believe I forgot to include something as important as the games that are able to be played upon this system. I got so caught up in being able to play the music that I forget, many apologies!
My all time favorite game on the X-Box so far has to be hands down "Morrowind Elder Scrolls" ...though the game itself will be another review soon, this is the game that made me decide to buy the X-Box.
My son and husband are into things like Halo and SoComm, all sort of sniper and military games but I don't do well with those games. (Not my preferred genre) However there were ample roleplaying games including Fable that I could enjoy on there. I also chose the Outlaw Golf series as well as the Championship Poker for my relaxation. I swear it seems like they come out with new games every day! (I'm fairly sure they don't actually do it daily but you get so absorbed in the gameplay because the sound and graphics are so incredible that before you know it, you're nearing the end (maybe) of your game and here pops out 2 more you want to try a.s.a.p!)
We didn't choose to buy all of the available peripherals (of which there are many including a remote kit) but thanks to the smooth graphics and such of X-Box+game duo, I spend many hours playing when life permits. I'm currently working on getting the wireless controllers to try. With the diversity in this product you can use it for more than just a game console. With space limited, multifunctionality is a wonderful find! I've played quite a few different systems over the years and if I had to recommend one only to someone for their home, I would absolutely recommend X-Box as the best choice. (I cannot compare to the X-Box 360 that just came out...sorry)
