| bokluk's Full Review: Miele W1215 Stainless steel Front Load Washer |
I recently bought the W1215 even though I wanted to first buy the W1203 which is basically the same machine except that it does not offer a delayed start (but who needs that anyway) and it comes in white. But then, I saw the W1215 in the shop with its stainless steel and it just looked like a pair of good Italian designer shoes standing next to some ordinary sneakers, which were in this case the standard white washing machines. So, I paid the little premium of almost $200 to get the W1215.
The Miele machines are, to my knowledge, the only ones in the whole US that offer a 'cooking' program, i.e. 95degC or 203degF. This is pretty much standard in Europe where machines run on 220-240V but in the US this is a challenge with the low voltage of 110V. So, Miele machines run on 208V in the US which is good because they achieve higher washing temperatures and are also much more energy efficient. However, you need to have a special electrical plug in your house that supports 208V (there is an installation kit from Miele 057B/060B for ~$200 for that matter).
All other machines only use the hot water directly from the water pipe, so if your hot water is not really hot your washing machine will wash with not so hot water. The Miele has an extra heating rod inside which costs a little premium but therefore you get really white clothes. If you are fed up with the washing performance of a standard American washing machine then go and get a Miele and finally get white Laundry that is really white and clean !!!!
The extra you have to pay upfront to purchase this machine will be equaled over time because Miele machines are much more energy and water efficient than machines from Maytag, GE, LG, Frigidaire, or any other vendor, they are really the best on the market. Check out the energy ratings at http://www.energystar.gov. The annual power(water) consumption has been measured as 127 kWh (3500 gallons), this is by far the best. There are machines that have larger drums (larger volume) and may achieve a lower so-called modified energy factor but this only holds if you really fill up your drum every time, which is not the case.
