Pros: a fun beer that doesn’t take itself too seriously as a gourmet brew
Cons: not that flavorful, maybe too much carbonation

| 4-1-1's Full Review: Mississippi Mud Black & Tan 1 Quart |
This is not the greatest tasting black-and-tan beer, but it is nevertheless a fun alternative and something that is definitely worth a taste and a try.
This dark, reddish-brown beer is a blend of porter and pilsener beers. It is high in carbonates and will produce some mighty belches if you drink it too quickly. It is almost overly carbonated and the head does not sustain itself -- dissolving quickly in the glass like Coca Cola. It is fizzy and acidic, a little sweet, and has a roasted and somewhat flowery caramel-and-chocolate nose. The flavor itself is nothing to rave over, in fact... this beer has little flavor at all.
One thing though: I truly love the way this brew is bottled. The old-fashioned brown jug look is a hoot and the big mouth makes for convenient pouring. I love the 32 oz. size... the perfect bottle size. The moonshine bottle makes this a fun beer to drink if taste is not an overriding concern and you are looking for something new and unusual.
One of my favorite cities in the U.S. is New Orleans, Louisiana, and one of my favorite things to do in the Crescent City is to eat Cajun-style food and drink plenty of liquor. I enjoy eating Gumbo and Jambalaya at the French Market, and Muffelleta sandwiches (Italian hoagie meats -- cotto salami, ham -- with provolone cheese and a mix of marinated olives, onions, peppers, garlic and tomatoes) at the Central Grocer. One beer that would go great with Cajun-style foods is this Mississippi Mud. Although brewed in Memphis, I will say that this beer goes better with spicy creole and cajun food than it does with Beale Street barbecue.
I bought a 1 quart bottle of Mississippi at Trader Joe’s Market for under $3.50 -- a good price. If you try it, it will not be the best tasting beer you ever had, but this one is fun to drink
