lllopez's Full Review: Music People Rs7000 Amp/Monitor Stand
The Music People RS7000 Amp/Monitor Stand is marketed as the Onstage RS 7000 amplifier/monitor stand. Its merits are heralded on professional and amateur stages everywhere. With a weight capacity of 152 lbs, the RS7000 is a good fit for nearly all combo amplifiers on the market, though I would opt for a 200 lbs. stand for some of the heavier boutique amps. Floor monitors can also utilize the RS7000 to elevate them for drum risers, and keyboard players.
One of the virtues of the RS7000 also represents a sore point when used improperly onstage. The tilt back feature is allows clearer dispersion in a room soaked with bodies. The problem arises when you get bleed into your microphones and now you have your sound tech pulling his hair out trying to keep vocal and instrument mixes separate.
Padded support arms fold up for easy storage or set up rapidly for those times when you get to the gig last and need a quick setup. The a framed legs both have a folding cross brace to add another layer of security, setting the stand to optimal stability. A threaded friction knob secures the amp support by locking into any one of five height detents allowing height adjustments from 17 to 24. A safety locking pin assures friction knob failure or inadvertent opening wont damage your prized amp. The black powder coated steel structure is both durable and attractive on stage.
Stage real estate is always a concern and keeping your footprint minimal is the order of the day. Measuring 22across and 16 deep you actually gain some space below your amp for cord, effects and case storage if needed, a plus. Rubber legs keep the stand from walking across or off the stage or mistakenly knocked over, yet another welcome level of security.
While it is a convenient accessory, it isnt always necessary to get your amp off the floor. If you are playing on an elevated stage, you would likely want a more level adjustment which the RS7000 cannot accommodate with only one pitch, though you could bring the height down to the bottom detent and mike your cabinet. When playing on floor level, the RS7000 allows you to cut through the mix handily, especially with a smaller combo. Care has to be exercised to not compromise the integrity of your overall mix with bleed-through though.
I am a fan of the RS7000 and own a few for my studio among other manufacturers offerings. They are secure, break down in three pieces for easy transport, though I find simply folding enough to make them a breeze to move from gig to gig. What more can you ask for? Well perhaps more amp tilt angles, which some of the other manufacturers offer. I would recommend the RS7000 for anyone who really doesnt care about variable amp pitch, otherwise look at some of the models offered by Quicklok among others.
