hollywoodgirl's Full Review: Neutrogena TRIPLE MOISTURE CREAM LATHER SHAMPOO
Wow! I am blown away by the incredible performance of this shampoo by Neutrogena. My hair is on the dry side and I have natural, human hair extensions, so I am always looking for a shampoo that will provide adequate moisture, some frizz control and some body, all without weigh down or making it sticky and gummy. I first saw an ad for this shampoo in In Style magazine, the model's hair looked so glamorous and healthy, so I thought gee, maybe I too could score "movie star" hair. Well, my extensions which are indeed very beautiful, help on that front, but my own hair needs a good moisturizing shampoo as well.
Before I used this shampoo, I tried the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask which is excellent, so I thought I'd give this shampoo a whirl when I saw it at my local Sav-on. I was also very encouraged by the many fine reviews on this site of this product as well, nice job fellow Epinions members! Ok, down to business. First of all the name "Triple Moisture" employs three main conditioning/softening components as does the deep conditioner: olive, meadowfoam seed, and sweet almond. All of these ingredients have natural oils that help to soften and smooth the hair, but amazingly, these don't weigh my very fine, wavy hair down, nor that of my extension hair.
Olive is found from the olive tree and the Spanish have long touted its natural and very emollient oils that have classically been used as dry hair treatments. Olive also has antioxidant benefits and health care benefits for skin. Meadowfoam seed, as the package indicates "helps to moisturize the middle" of the hair shaft, to ensure that all parts of each hair strand get the conditioning benefits of this element. Sweet almond is another natural oil derived from almonds and according again to the packaging, this helps to wrap the surface of the hair shaft, again ensuring that it gets adequately coated with the natural conditioners in this shampoo.
As the name implies, Neutrogena Triple Moisture is a three component system which employs the philosophy of reaching every part of the hair shaft, other shampoos that claim to be moisturizing, only often coat the surface and don't actually permeate the entire shaft. I can attest to this, as when I have used previous moisturizing shampoos by a myriad of other manufacturer's, my hair doesn't really feel 100% moisturized, with this, each strand feels like silk, so I know it works. Anyone with normal-dry or overprocessed and or color treated hair could use this with good results, this is definitely not for oily or normal normal hair, it has way too many emollients and might weigh it down. Like I said before, even fine hair like mine can use this with success, as it doesn't seem to weigh my hair down at all, amazing.
Some of the other components in this wonderful product include cocomides, which are derived from coconuts and used as natural conditioners, a variety of fruit oils, also good sources of natural emollients, citric acid derived from citrus fruit, as well as a minute amount of alcohol and other water-binders and filling agents.
The consistency of this is about medium, it is not a clear, light clarifier, but it is not as thick as say, Nexxus' Therappe shampoo. The smell is a cross between Juicy Fruit gum and cottoncandy, sweet, but not overly so and is not cloying at all. The product lathered very well, it was almost as if I had soft water coming out of my shower, amazing, because we have the worst, most horrible hard water here in Southern California. Usually, due to the hard water, my soaps don't lather so well, but this shampoo did, probably a testament to its plethora of softening agents and natural conditioners. It is really incredible how a natural emollients laden shampoo such as this can soften, add body, smooth and condition so incredibly well, without weighing down even fine hair. I said it before, but it bears repeating, as I have not found this to be the case with any other conditioning shampoo formula.
On the downside, for all you fellow animal lovers out there, I believe that Neutrogena DOES test on animals. Not that this would be a deal breaker for me, but I prefer products that don't, like St. Ives. However, the positive aspects of this shampoo outweigh the negative ones for me, rarely, has any shampoo left me hair feeling bouncy, full of shine, and so light. I would also recommend the accompanying Daily Deep Conditioner and or the Hair Mask, these rock too for leaving the hair super silky smooth and normalized. What an amazing new product from Neutrogena.
