Pros: small, light, fast focusing

The Bottom Line: The lens offers much more flexibility and convenience than the lenses usually packaged in camera kits.

I'm not going to to reiterate the other review, I'm just going to give my recommendation. The extra ~$200 for this lens is a steal as opposed to getting the 28-80's usually included with cameras these days. The extra 4mm of wide angle alone would make it worth it, but this lens brings much more to the table. The extra 2/3 stop at 85 mm gives better shutter speeds than one would get from the alternatives and the manual override is very convenient.
This lens also pairs very well with digital cameras such as the D100. Because of the 1.5x multiplier present on Nikon digital cameras this lens becomes 36-128mm.
