| pippadaisy's Full Review: Nilo Toy Chest Storage Bench |
Once Santa had decided on a train table for Buster and Bug, the question of storage for the myriad of trains, track, structures, and accessories was the next problem to deal with. Santa researched all the products that went along with the Nilo Multi-Use Train Table he selected, and went, once again, with my sister's choice of the Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench.
::: Storage Bench Specifics :::
The Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench is made of the same melamine and hardwood construction as the table. Measuring 14" wide x 34" long x 12½" high, it features a hardwood flip-top bench seat, and three dividers inside creating four compartments for plenty of train or toy storage. The two sides of the bench are slightly raised, and feature the same holes for Nilo-Jax that the table has, for increased play.
The Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench can be used as seating with the table during play, for storage, and also as a play surface with one of the LEGO-Duplo compatible construction sheet (sold separately).
::: Why This One? :::
Nilo has several different storage and seating options for use with the train table, but Santa chose the Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench for several reasons. One is that, like most of the Nilo storage products, it fits under the Nilo table when not in use, preserving precious toy room space. Another is that it has plenty of storage space, but also divides nicely so that we can use two sections for track, one for rises, and the last for trains, people, and other accessories.
The ultimate reason, however, is that the bench is big enough to allow three little ones or two older children to sit side-by-side with their legs under the table. Nothing is worse than a shoving match during play, and with the Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench, there isn't as much fighting, because two or more of the kids can sit on the same side of the train table. The fact that it can be used as a play surface as well is an added bonus.
::: Assembly and Durability :::
The Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench took a bit longer than its counterpart to assemble, probably a little over an hour due to the multiple pieces necessary. Once together, it is light and very durable, letting out not so much as a creak when the kids are playing on it.
In terms of durability, my sister has had hers along with her table for over two years. The storage itself has lasted without any issues, but her boys did manage to remove the bench top at some point, and she has yet to replace it. So far, the top seems sturdy enough that it shouldn't happen, but I will definitely keep an eye on it after her experience.
::: And the Boys Say... :::
Buster and Bug are much more concerned with the table itself than the bench they sit on, but I have yet to see them playing with the trains and not sitting on the bench. Best of all, it gives them a designated place for ALL the train things to go when they are done with play time, making it much more likely that they will help out with clean-up. We have so much track at this point that we weren't able to fit three of our larger structures in the Nilo Multi-Use Storage Bench, but we are hoping that Buster's upcoming birthday might net us another of these.
