The Bottom Line: A fun product that gives a nice golden glow to your skin. Easy to apply and easy to use. The large size is a bargain.

| judy_lind's Full Review: Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion |
I bought Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion after reading several reviews on Epinions. Target is featuring a 13.5 ounce bottle for only $10.00, vs. their usual price of $6.00 for a 7 ounce bottle, so the larger size is a bargain. Rather than repeat the information about packaging and ingredients which have been posted to repletion, I'd like to focus on my experience with this product.
New Shade
The original product is preferable for people with light to medium skin. Nivea recently brought out a second product (advertised on the bottle as "New Shade") for people with medium to dark skin. Since my skin is a kind of golden honey color, I bought the latter color and it works great.
Since the lotion is made with microscopic gold flecks, I couldn't see it on people with very fair skin, or people with a more florid complexion. The contrast would be all wrong. It's more a product for people with a warm skin tone.
Application
The squeeze bottle is very easy to use, and thank goodness the lotion doesn't come out in a big glop, like some lotions do, and make a mess all over everything. You can squeeze out the precise amount you want before applying it. It's easy to apply also; doesn't streak or show up in patches. It gives your skin a golden shimmer that is really picked up in bright sunlight or under a bright indoor light. It won't give as much shimmer as a dusting powder and doesn't advertise itself as such.
Hot weather or cold?
Obviously, you'll use more of this in the hot weather when you're outside in the sun. You'll have a slight golden glow all over which looks wonderful if you have the right skin tone for it. But I bought this product in November, which is overcoat weather in New York City. I'm able to put it to good use through the winter, though. Mixed with some make-up base, it gives a very subtle glow to your face. Like all make-up, you have to play around with it to get the effect you want.
Bottom line:
I found Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion to be a great product for a small price. The lotion feels good, not too greasy or oily, and it can be used as a body lotion or a face lotion. The only caveat I have has been stated on other reviews, but it's worth repeating: let it dry before your skin touches your clothes. A glow on you is great, a glow on your clothes is a no-no.
