It seems as though every month my fiance and I have been traveling to Denver, CO, for one reason or another. This time it was to see a concert and also visit his parents in their new home.
Needless to say, my skin is incredibly pale and pasty. I looked like a ghost standing next to all of the bronzed beauties found in Colorado. Heck, if I lived in a place with almost zero humidity I think I'd spend all my time outdoors too.
Desperate, I went to the local WalMart in Castle Rock (south of Denver). I needed something to improve how my skin looked, along with adding moisture since the climate in Colorado can be very drying if you're not used to it. I happened to come across Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion priced at $5.97 for 6.8 oz.
I immediately noticed it because its packaging stood out from all the other Nivea packaging. It was in the traditional navy blue and white bottle, but this bottle had a hint of sheen on it, promising of good things to come.
I had never tried a Nivea product and was immediately intrigued. I recalled seeing some commercials advertising this product. Since Silky Shimmer Lotion fit into all of my criteria (improved how my skin looked, moisturized, and had a catchy advertising campaign that left an imprint in my mind) I purchased it and went back to my fiance's parent's house.
The Hype:

Ingredients:
Triple Purified Water, Glycerin, Octyldodecanol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, SD Alcohol 40-B, Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Mica, Dicaprylyl Ether, Myristyl Alcohol, Cyclohexasiloxane, Fragrance, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Iron Oxides.
What I found:
Silky Shimmer Lotion is applied like a moisturizer to the whole body. The product itself is moisturizer-like, only instead of white it is a beigy-gold color. Once applied, it has to dry fully before coming in contact with clothes. It only takes a couple minutes.
The moisturizer absorbs quickly into your skin so you don't have to worry about feeling sticky for the rest of the day.
When you apply the lotion, you'll barely notice a change. Your skin will definitely feel softer, but as far as shimmer goes it won't be noticeable. However, once it has dried and you head out into some light, you'll notice a difference. It's as though someone has painted you with a fine dusting of gold. This in turn literally reflects light, making your skin look even and bronzed. However, keep in mind that the effect is very subtle. It is extremely attractive, especially on the legs and chest and shoulder area. And, it's appropriate for both day and evening wear.
Since the shimmer is low-key, you won't have to worry about it transferring to places you'd rather not have it (like your clothes and face) throughout the day. I can apply the shimmer in the morning and it will still be there at the end of the day.
Also, the scent is very subtle. It is neither floral nor musky. In other words, it is a scent that can agree with anyone.
My Recommendation:
Nivea Silky Shimmer Lotion is a moisturizer that adds a beautiful sheen to your skin. Light and silky, it is the perfect summer-time moisturizer. It is now a mainstay in my cosmetic bag, and will remain there until the end of summer and I can no longer wear tank tops and shorts.
