If you are looking for a heavy duty and highly functional treadmill, consider this one from Nordic Track . We were in the market for one and my wife went ahead and purchased this one from the Sears store here. They delivered it to our house for a delivery charge of $40. Martha and the girls set it up in our little hideaway den.
Nordic Track's APEX 4100i treadmill is not your father's treadmill. This treadmill features a Virtual Personal Trainer and workouts that can always be freshly customized to the trekker's individual preferences.
The 'Navigator' console is aptly named. From this console you can both monitor your workout and adjust the settings. You can adjust the level of incline and the pace of your journey. Additionally the graphic readouts can motivate and challenge you. You may chose from dozens of exercise programs. We have found that being able to trek off thru a trail program or a challenging road course adds enough variety to keep both of us going. I think if we were just vegging out staring at the television always the APEX's appeal would have past its zenith long ago.
The walking surface is made of a soft and spongy substance called DuraSoft . The surface includes a foam padding that softens the impact to your feet when contacting the surface. The walking surface can be easily adjusted via the rear roller adjustment bolts. To tighten turn both bolts. To realign tighten one bolt and loosen the other bolt depending upon which way you need to adjust the surface.
One of the features that we are pleased with is the powerful two horsepower motor. There is no annoying whirring sound from the motor. It is whisper quiet as advertised. There is nothing more annoying than to try to converse above the decibel output of a noisy piece of equipment. I used to get my fill of that at work. A little peace and quiet while I'm working out is appreciated.
The APEX is designed to save space. It is designed so that you can 'wheelbarrow' it out of the way when not in use. You may also raise the walking surface to vertical when not in use. We mostly leave ours splayed out in the den ready for use, but it is easy to move around for vacuuming or whatever. Because unit is very heavy and bulky I would hate to have to move it very far or from one level to another.
Our treadmill has enjoyed steady use. It seems that one of us is always on the thing. I am competitive and am forever trying to improve upon my personal best on some of the various programs. If you have a little bit of an imagination, you can get really absorbed in the exercise programs. We have only had very minimal maintenance to perform on our machine. I guess properly adjusting the tension of the walking surface was our biggest challenge.
I still prefer a nice stroll around the neighborhood or a round of golf to grinding it out on the treadmill. But the APEX 4100i is nice for those times when it is raining or snowing outside. It is also great at the end of a busy day when you know you need a bit of exercise. Ours has served us well and I can recommend it. So,if you are looking for a durable treadmill; trek on down to the local mall get the salesperson to show you their Nordic Track treadmills.
