Kittyokc's Full Review: nutro products Nutro Max Cat Chicken & Liver Formu...
We don't feed our cats canned food as a part of their daily diet, but they do get canned food about once or twice a week as a treat. Because we feed them canned food in this way, we have tried a variety of different canned foods, some good for them and then some not so good. One of the latest ones we tried with them was Nutro Max Cat Chicken and Liver and I'm happy to say that both of the cats loved it and it's good for them!
The Food
There is nothing remarkable about the looks of this canned food. Upon first glance it looks like any other compressed canned food, but it is very moist and seems to have a softer texture than other compressed foods. It is very easy to open the can with the pull-tab ring and also easy to scoop out the food into your cats bowl. Surprisingly, this canned food does not have an overpowering odor, it does have that canned food smell, but it's not as overpowering as some can be. It doesn't seem to matter to the cats, they've eaten the canned foods that barely have any odor and also the ones that stink to high heaven, luckily for our noses, this one isn't bad.
Nutrition
As I mentioned before, this canned food is actually good for them, which is a definite plus. A quick glance at the ingredient list will show you that there are no by-products in this food, instead you will see things like chicken broth, chicken, cod, turkey, beef, chicken liver and beef liver. I won't go into detail about all the ingredients on the can, but it does also have all the required vitamins and minerals your cat requires. For people feeding their cat a daily diet of healthy dry and canned food, this one would definitely fall into the good category.
Taste Test
This is where the decision really comes in as to whether or not we will buy a certain type of canned food comes in, if they won't eat it, there's no sense in buying it anymore even if it is good for them. Frisky is our 12 year old cat, who will eat just about anything and Reva is our 4 year old rescue cat, who is very picky about canned food and treats. We've always seemed to have a picky eater among our cats, so it hasn't always been easy to find a food where both cats like it.
So, what did the cats think?
Surprisingly, both cats loved the food and ate it in one sitting. Frisky got to the bowl first and had his fill, which was about half of it, once he was done Reva hesitantly approached it and sniffed and then started eating it. I was expecting here to take a few bites and walk away, which is how she usually is, if she even eats any, but that wasn't the case. Instead of the few bites, she actually finished the last half of the food by herself, leaving Frisky a bit miffed when he came back later to finish it only to find there was none left.
Conclusion
Since both cats loved the food and it's good for them, I highly recommend you give this canned food a try whether you are looking for a once in a while treat for your cat or as part of their daily diet. These can be bought at your local pet store, we get ours at Petsmart, in either individual 5.5 oz cans or you can save a little money and buy it by the 24 can case. While the cost is a bit more expensive than your garden variety canned foods you can buy in the grocery store, it is well worth the extra cost to know that your cat is getting healthy ingredients.
