| ladymillionair's Full Review: Hewlett Packard OfficeJet t45 All-In-One InkJet Pr... |
After just completing a 10-page fax at one dollar per page, not to mention the copies my husband had to make on top of that, I decided that it was time to get a fax machine. After all the money we’ve spent on faxing this year, we should have started the year with our own fax machine. And where else do we go but to our new favorite store where they have all the answers: CompUSA. Unfortunately, they don’t sell fax machines, but we do need a new printer for better photo quality and compatibility with our scanner.
My husband stopped at the Hewlett Packard OfficeJet T45. It was like his feet were glued to the ground all of a sudden. So, we checked it out and it was on sale. I’m really catching all of these sales spontaneously, I swear. And the little sticker on it says, “No PC required.” What? Are you kidding me? That’s incredible! We love it already.
Now, I haven’t considered getting an All-In-One before because we already have everything in separate pieces: the printer, the scanner and the rest of our computer system. Our scanner gets treated like a copier most of the time. So, we carried it to the cashier and found out that there was a $25 mail-in rebate on any All-In-One machine (on top of that in store sale). Who isn’t happier when they’re saving money?
When we get our new Hewlett Packard OfficeJet T45 home and pull it out of the box, we find that it’s a lot bigger than we expected. You see, in the store, it was up on a shelf and next to all the other larger-sized models, so it looked small. This Hewlett Packard is actually monster-size compared to my little Apollo (technology by Hewlett Packard – see my Epinion “The Little Printer That Could“). And yes, my Apollo got the boot with this new addition. But my husband insisted on keeping his Hewlett Packard Scanner. So go the compromises of marriage.
Set up was fairly easy. I say fairly easy because we have a small space for our computer along with all of our accessories and so it’s a tight squeeze to unplug a few things first before setting up the new system. I plugged the Hewlett Packard OfficeJet T45 phone line directly into our DSL modem and connected it to the scanner (with the scanner already being connected to the computer. Everything looks and works great! And it’s so easy to use that I can’t wait to start on this year’s Christmas cards (see my Epinion “MS Publisher 2000 Makes Me Look Like A Genius“).
All of the buttons are self-explanatory. Print anything whether it’s a single document, a banner, transparencies, business cards, greeting cards, or envelopes. The paper all goes in the same side of the printer. You don’t have to manually feed anything from the back of the machine or anywhere else. Send or receive a fax in black and white or color documents. Scan and fax. Delay sending a fax. Print a variety of reports manually and/or automatically. Set the fax to Auto-Answer after your choice of rings. It even allows for setup for those specialized rings. And I have my telephone and answering machine set up with it. The answering machine must be set to fewer rings than the fax set up, but that’s all in the easy-to-follow instructions.
After installing the software on our computer, I didn’t even have to set the date/clock on the Hewlett Packard OfficeJet T45. It was done already just because it was connected to the computer. The system was ready to go after the print cartridges were aligned.
The big test for me came down to scanning. I participate in as many rebate offers that I can and I always scan the UPC symbols (all shapes and sizes), rebate certificates (usually post card size), and copy receipts (all sizes). No problem. After aligning the document holder to the size of each item, just let the document feed through. Either scan to the computer or copy directly.
The possibilities are endless. We do use this machine at home and not for a business. It is for us to communicate with our friends and family through newsletters with photos and everything else. We complete every day or seasonal activities. And we’ll save money on unexpected errands like multiple page faxes. The Hewlett Packard OfficeJet T45 is an incredible machine with uses beyond the office and we brought it home.
