Pros: Nice design, safety switch controls power to shredder
Cons: Shreds fewer sheets than advertised, tines prone to bending, small shredding bin
The Bottom Line: For the low price, if carefully inserting only 3-4 pages at a time and with regular lubrication, this shredder could last a long time.

| jessica99835's Full Review: Office Depot Ativa™ DQ60M Shredder |
I purchased this product one year ago to shred all the junk mail with my name preprinted on it, and all my paperwork with account numbers. It shouldn't be a lot of shredding for one small household, but it adds up. The shredder is located in a fairly public place in my home, so I wanted it to have a nice design, which I think it does.
The shredder worked perfectly for a few weeks, taking 6-8 papers at a time without hesitation. Then, I shredded an unopened envelope that I later learned contained a sample plastic credit card. The shredder has never been the same since! The plastic bent two of the center tines so that any future paper gets jammed after about 10 pieces. I attempted to realign the tines, but without success. I have to take the top shredding unit off and use a pick to dig out the wadded-up paper, then replace the lid and begin again, single pages at a time, up to about 10 pages, then repeat the process. So, the shredder technically works, but it's a nuisance.
In defence of the shredder, I am aware that if I'd put oil or lubricating sheet into the machine routinely, it may not had been so sensitive to the plastic credit card. So, really, it may be my fault. And, it does work technically. But the advertising suggests that it is much more powerful than I believe it truly is.
