Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
There comes a point in a person's life when they just get fed up. Fed up with their job, fed up with their life... just sick and tired of going on. Office Space is a story about one of those times. Written and directed by Mike Judge, a comic animator, Office Space lived up to my expectations completely.
Peter (Ron Livingston) is an employee at Initech. He is tired of the pressure he has to face every day from his job, so he decides to visit an occupational hypnotherapist. But before the therapist can snap Peter out of his trance , he falls over dead. From that moment on, Peter is a changed man. He misses work and sleeps all day. He goes fishing, and when he finally does return to work, he promptly places his fish on a stack of reports and proceeds to gut it.
Peter is in love with Joanna (Jennifer Aniston), a waitress at the restaurant across the street. After his visit to the hypnotherapist, he decides to take her to lunch. She has some of the same problems at her job as he does at his. She is required to wear at least 15 pieces of flair (buttons). A fellow employee has over 30 buttons on. Her boss keeps confronting her about only doing the bare minimum, but doesn't require her to wear any more than that. She finally gets fed up with him, gives him the finger, and quits her job.
In the mean time, Peter's annoying boss (Gary Cole) brings in a team of "efficiency experts" to get rid of some of the unnecessary personal. Peter tells them about how he has been skipping work, and how he has eight bosses that come down on him when he makes a stupid mistake. Though he does near everything in his power to get fired, instead they promote him, and fire his two friends, Samir (Ajay Naidu), and Michael Bolton (David Herman).
Peter, Samir, and Michael decide to infect Initech's accounting software with a virus that will round every banking transaction down to the nearest penny, and put the remainder into an account they opened for themselves. But, much to their dismay, Michael placed a decimal point in the wrong place and, instead of taking two years for the balance to reach $200,000, it was more than that much in just one day! Confronted with the fact that they may spend years in prison, Peter takes it upon himself to take the blame for it and slips the money and a note under his bosses door.
With an explosive mix of comedy, burning buildings, and smashing things with baseball bat, Office Space is sure to keep you entertained the entire time. With appearances by Stephen Root and Diedrich Bader to add to the laughter, there is no lack of comedy. I would recommend this movie to anyone who has ever gotten sick and tired of their job, and needed a little Office Space of their own.
