| shippo225's Full Review: Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer |
My New Toy:
.....I got the Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer about a year ago. And so far, it has done me well. It comes with many of the features that you would find on very expensive units. The size is quite small and you wont even know that its on your waist. It was also easy to set up right out of the box.
Programing:
.....Before you use the Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer, you must first set up the measuring tools. These will make sure that you get a most accurate reading.
.....First thing, clip the pedometer on your waist and go outside. Walk about twenty steps with it on. Look at the steps that it counted. If the counter came up with under twenty steps, adjust the sensitivity slider to the left. If it came up more than twenty steps, move the switch to the right. Keep repeating this process until it comes up twenty on the display. This will keep an accurate count of how many steps you take on a walk.
.....Next, you'll need to set your step length. This is how wide your strides are. The average is about three feet. To find your stride length, start walking as you normally would and stop when your feet are as far apart as they will get. Program it in to the Omron. This function will allow the pedometer to calculate how far you have walked. Each step adds your stride length on.
.....And last, you will have to set your weight. Don't lie, you'll only cheat yourself. This will calculate the total number of calories that you burned in a workout. The standard is set at 150 pounds. Just set the weight by holding one of the buttons in until it reaches your weight. Unfortunately, I had to hold the button for awhile, if you know what I mean.
A Great Motivation Tool:
.....When I go for a walk, I like to set a goal. You can set one, one of three ways. First, you can set a goal for any number of steps, maybe 5,000. When you reach it, you might decide to go another 1,000 steps. Next, you might want to set a goal for number of calories burned. This would be my favorite. I like to set a goal for 500 - 1000 calories, which is about 4 to 8 miles. And last, a goal can be set for a distance. Make it one, two , even five miles, depending on your overall fitness. Or set it for a goal of 10 to 15 miles a week.
.....Each time you use the Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer, your session will begin from the previous one. This means that it will start adding on from the last session's distances. This is great if you want to do weekly walking plans. But if you want to start at all zeros each time you walk, just press and hold the reset button for a couple seconds and all previous information will be reset.
Minor Flaws
.....As mentioned in StraightTalker's review on the Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer, the original battery will not last too long. This is probably caused by the long shelf-life. Just stop in at Radio Shack for a replacement.(StraightTalkers's review. citation). Other than that, there really aren't any other flaws.
Dimensions:
.....The Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer is a slim, compact designed pedometer. It is about two and a half inches long, an inch wide, and about a quarter-inch thick. When the unit is clipped on my belt, I sometimes forget that it is there. It's not bulky like most models, but super slim, no thicker than a pencil.
On The Outside - Looks:
.....The basic color of the unit itself is blue. The inside is grayish with black text on the flip-cover. The display panel is also gray with three yellow bottons. The digital LED display is on the left. A sensitivity switch is located under it. The font of the LED display is readable for even the hard of sight.
Paranoid About Losing It?
.....On the pedometer unit is a hole where you can attach a safety line to it. This is for the paranoid who are afraid that the unit will fall off while you are in the middle of a walk or jog. I was like this at first, but then I realized that I wasn't going to lose it. So I took the safety line off.
Durability:
.....And last, I will talk about durability. In all, the unit is sturdy. It will not hurt to take a walk in the rain. As mentioned in the first review on this product, it was able to withstand a washer and a scolding hot dryer for forty minutes.
What Makes This One Different From Others?
.....Unlike other pedometers, the Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer is slim, not bulging and noticeable. The unit will work for years and thousands of miles. Many units that were tried failed. Some would stop working within a month or two. My aunt's pedometer stopped working after twenty miles of walking, and it won't count steps either. The Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer is not going to fall apart or become disfunctional after only a few miles like others do. It was the first one I bought and it will be the last. I plan on having it for a while.
Conclusion:
.....I would recommend the Omron Body Logic Digital Pedometer to any walker. Whether new or advanced. The large display allows easy reading without straining your eyes. And the slim, compact design will feel great at your side.
