I got this system in my HT-S650 package from Circuit City. It looked fairly large, but fit conveniently in the space under my TV on the TV cart I have in my dorm room. I managed to run a DVD player (Panasonic CP72) and my Playstation 2 into the dual optical input slots. I then managed to run my computer, using my Phillips Acoustic Edge sound card and adapters into the digital coaxial input. The sound quality is amazing.
This system can pump out power, and before I had my system in my dorm room, all I had around was my Nintendo 64 and portable CD player. Just running those into the receiver, it could still pound out the songs. I don't think Mariokart 64 ever sounded better.
I would recommend this for a beginner to an expert.
