Optimum Nutrition's "Mega Fat Burner" - Cashing In On A Cleverly Worded But Deceptive Name

If you are looking to burn away fat then you are in luck, there are literally hundreds of products on the market that will do exactly that, “burn fat”. What the manufacturers don’t say is if this is existing body fat or fat from foods that you are consuming. This is where it gets tricky to purchase things if you haven’t done your research and talked with people who have tried products out. One type of product that helps to burn fat from your body is called a “thermogenic”, this type of product raises your body temperature a little to force your body to use stored fats. Of course if you are sitting there chowing down on Twinkies and drinking chocolate milk then nothing is going to happen outside of you sweating. The other type of fat burner is one that helps to transport consumed fats [from foods] through your body so they aren’t absorbed into your system. Optimum Nutrition’s “Mega Fat Burner” is in the second class because there’s nothing in the formulation that is going to raise your body temperature or help you lose existing body fat. See, these people can be tricky when they are naming things so don’t ever go by how a product is labeled or what the name is.

Optimum Nutrition claims that this will help to transport fat consumed from food out of your system as well as controlling your appetite. “A powerful, yet economical fat metabolizing formula” are their exact words - again, this is clever wording that sucks a lot of people into buying something that sounds like it is going to work to burn fat but it doesn’t. The tip off here should be the word “metabolizing” loosely translated it means to consume or absorb so they are saying that this stuff consumes fat or absorbs it. In theory that’s nice but it doesn’t say if it consumes and absorbs all fats or just the ones that are bad for you. If taken for a long period of time you might run in to some problems with the “good fat vs. bad fat” balance but truthfully, I can’t see anyone staying on this for more than a few months because you won’t see any real results.
I purchased a bottle of this from a site based solely on the name so it was my fault that I ended up with this product. Normally I am pretty careful when it comes to buying products online but I saw this for under ten bucks and jumped on it. I did use up about two thirds of the bottle but can’t say that I saw any real results from it. I mean, there is a chance that it helps to pull out some of the consumed fat from my body but without testing my levels before and after ingestion there’s no way to say for sure that this was even the least bit effective or lived up to any of the claims that Optimum makes about it. I would suggest this type of product to anyone that is doing a low carb diet if they are consuming a lot of high fat foods; this could help to rid your body of some excess fat but on the same token it might also be flushing out some essential fats from your system. It’s sort of a crap shoot; you might be doing a good thing but you might also be doing a bad thing.
Suggested Dosage
Where as most true fat burners are taken on an empty stomach so they are most effective, this is taken before a meal to help aid in moving consumed fat out of your system. This works like the products that contain chitosan but since the levels of the active ingreditens aren’t that high you shouldn’t get any cramping or excess gas from taking this. Optimum Nutrition suggests taking two of these before a meal but that is just a suggestion; if you are 300 pounds and looking to get rid of excess consumed fat from a low carb diet [fat from bacon, ham, fried foods etc] then you might need more than two of them to have any effect at all. Sadly, most people are going to purchase this thinking that it is something that is going to help them lose weight or get rid of excess body fat. It will work to help control your appetite if taken about an hour before a meal but if you only give it a half hour to work, chances are it isn’t going to do anything to help you eat less.
Price
The sixty count bottle will cost you anywhere from ten to fifteen dollars depending on where you are shopping. Places like GNC will carry this for about $14.99 and if you ask them “Will this help me lose weight?”, chances are they will say yes because they are clueless about the ingredients and what they do. If you are taking this two or three times a day then a bottle won’t last you very long so if this is something that you plan on using often you might want to check and see if you can get it in a co-pack [two or three bottles packaged together] or if Optimum Nutrition has these in larger sized bottles. I went through one bottle in less than a month and that was enough for me. It wasn’t what I expected it to be and it was my own fault that I purchased this. I should know better than to buy something based solely on the name but the Optimum Nutrition name is one that I trusted so I went with it and ordered it without checking it out.
The Bottom Line
This hasn’t been evaluated by the FDA [Food & Drug Administration] so any of the claims that they make about the product are just that - claims. There are a lot of products on the market that claim to do a lot of things but stop and think about them before you get sucked into buying them. If every fat burner worked then guess what, people would all be thin and companies that make the stuff would be out of business. To quote Chris Rock ... “ ... there ain’t no money in the cure ...”. Same thing here, if they came up with some miracle drug to help people lose weight or stop heart attacks then thousands of companies would be out of business not to mention doctors, hospitals and related avenues of commerce.
