| marnica's Full Review: Burt's Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser 4oz |
Recently I reviewed Burt's Bees Blemish stick, and decided to expand my horizons a bit and try some more Burt's Bees products. After all they are all natural and I found the blemish stick to be highly effective. I went back to their website and perused the possibilities. I was looking for a facial cleanser. Something mild, non-drying that would not clog my pores. Not an easy task. One product caught my eye. This was the Orange Essence Facial Cleanser. I must say what really convinced me was that this product had been voted the healthiest beauty product of 1999 by a board of independent dermatologists......Well I figured if a dermatologist thinks it is a good product it is worth a try. I ordered it for $9.00 (plus 4.50 S&H) and it arrived about 5 days later.
This product comes in a 4oz tube with a convenient flip cap. I opened it up and took a whiff. HEAVENLY!!! The scent is a very pleasant orange citrus. I squeezed a dime size amount in my hand and gasped in horror. This stuff was goopy and thick. I took a small amount and worked it around my fingers. It reminded me of Vaseline, but even thicker. I rinsed it off my fingers and was left with the feeling that it had not all come off. OH NO!! I thought. Something with this consistency will undoubtedly clog my pores and leave me with more blemishes Doesn't this product sound downright horrible??? Well not so fast.....I am the type of person that does not like to judge a book by it's cover, and know from using probably hundreds of facial cleansers in my time, that just because something looks gross, or doesn't smell great, doesn't mean it's not effective, and lets face it....isn't that what we are all looking for....something that works!!!
I also happen to be the type of person that refuses to waste money. So I figured I would give it a fair try. I crossed my fingers and slathered it on my face. It does not really produce any kind of lather, but again the scent was wonderful. I rinsed it off and my face felt a bit greasy for a few minutes, but as soon as I patted my face dry with a towel, I noticed that the greasy feeling was now more of a silky smooth feeling. I went to bed a said a little prayer that I wouldn't wake up with new craters on my face. In the morning I looked in the mirror and was pleasantly surprised. My face had no new pimples, and the old ones actually looked less red. My skin was smooth as well. VICTORY!!! I have been using this product for several months now and am still satisfied. It doesn't help prevent pimples, but it help treat the ones you have with out drying your skin and it certainly doesn't cause new ones either.
Here is a list of the ingredients and their purpose:
*Aloe Gel: Moisturizing and soothing with healing properties
*Beta-Carotene: Found in carrotts, gives product a red/orange color.
*Vegetable Glycerin: By product of soap making, draws moisture to the skin.
*Lanolin: Good for dry skin and hair, emmollient, lubricant and protectant.
*Olive Oil: Soothes, heals and lubricates the skin.
*Orange Oil: Reduces puffiness and discourages dry, wrinkled skin, stimulates circulation, clears blemishes and is a natural exfolient, and smells great!!
*Oat Protein: Natural emulsifier which blends vegetable oils and glycerin together.
*Vegetable Oil: Used to dilute other oils which are too strong to be used directly on the skin, also a good emollient.
*Rosemary Extract: physical and mental stimulant, stimulates cell renewal, clears acne, improves circulation and reduces appearance of broken capillaries.
*Vitamin E: Emollient, reduces appearance of scars and increases elasticity.
*Water (Of Course!!!)
So there you have it. Despite it's consistency (which may put people off), this is a great product and deserves a fair chance. I no longer order it from the website however. I have found that you can buy it at Food Emporium for $10.00, which is cheaper because there is no shipping fee. If you decide to try this product remember DON"T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Good luck!!
