When I first saw this product on the Origins website, I thought it was a gimmick and thought it was strange. I passed it up several times.
A few weeks ago, I was at an upscale mall and stopped by the Origins store (I go crazy in that store! It's small but I can spend hours in there - more so than just an Origins counter, because they have more stuff in the actual store!). While perusing the eyeshadows and lip pencils, I again saw this Eye Brightening Color Stick and rubbed a bit on my hand. I loved the color and had to give it a try!
The Low Down:
Eye Brightening Color Stick is a pencil that is very similar in look to three of Origins' lip pencils, Shimmer Stick, Sheer Stick and Matte Stick. The difference is that the Eye Brightening Color Stick is an eye pencil. The pencil is wooden, with a silver coating. It has a clear, plastic cap that just slides over the pencil tip. The pencil itself is 4" long including the cap, or 3.75" long without it. You will definitely need a large eye pencil to sharpen this stick, as it measures .5" in diameter.
The Eye Brightening Color Stick comes in just one shade: Iceblue. This color is a very pale, icy blue. You will get .09 oz. of product in each stick.
How To Use (taken from packaging):
To make your eyes wake up and come alive, glide along upper lid. Wear alone or above your favorite liner. Apply before mascara.
Ingredients (taken from packaging):
Castor oil, candelilla wax, octyldodecanol, jojoba oil, octyl palmitate, bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2, carnauba wax, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetyl alcohol, montmorillonite, calcium sulfate, beeswax, tocopherol, talc, ascorbyl palmitate, wheat germ glycerides. May Contain: Mica, iron oxides, titanium dioxide, ultramarines, ferric ferrocyanide, bismuth oxychloride, chromium hydroxide green, chromium oxide greens, manganese violet.
My Experience:
I wasn't sure at first if I had made a good purchase or not. I was in the mood to try something new, and figured that I could always use something that's going to brighten my face up a little!
I ended up being pleasantly surprised with this product, as it is very versatile. There are really three ways to use this pencil that I've discovered so far:
1. Use in the inside corners of eyes to brighten up your eyes. This look is very popular now; you'll see models in cosmetics ads, as well as Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears with glimmery, white-ish shadow on the inside corners of their eyes.
2. Use as an eye liner on the upper lid. This really adds to the brightening look.
3. Use as an eye shadow by covering the entire eye lid. This is a pale, icy look that is good for casual wear or for work.
Since I've had this pencil, I have tried all three of the above and have had good results. The pencil looks more white when used on the inside corners of eyes, and more icy blue when used as a liner or shadow.
The finish of Eye Brightening Color Stick is mostly matte, with just the slightest touch of shimmer. It takes on a more shimmery look when it is used as a shadow.
Eye Brightening Color Stick applies very easily and there is no tugging or pulling. It is a creamier pencil without being too creamy. It is almost a cross between a cream and a powder. As you use it, the color warms from your body heat and gets even easier to apply as you go along.
Eye Brightening Color Stick is definitely comfortable - it's very lightweight and doesn't feel "gloppy" or heavy at all. You won't even know it's on your eye lids!
The wear of this color stick is very good; I have not had to re-apply it when wearing it in any of the above-listed ways. It does crease somewhat when using it as a full lid shadow, but this is OK because Origins doesn't claim that it is crease-free.
I am very pleased so far with the results I've received from this product. It really does brighten up my eyes, which I think brightens up my whole face. I could also swear it makes me look younger, but that could be my imagination! This is also a fun product to experiment with. A fourth way to use this product would be to use it as a liner ABOVE your regular eye liner, but to me, that sounds silly if you are also wearing a separate eyeshadow.
I've had problems in the past with pencil eyeshadows "melting" and running into my eyes (Maybelline Cool Effects is an example of one I've had trouble with), but Eye Brightening Color Stick stayed put, did not melt and did not creep into my eyes or onto my cheeks at all.
