Oxo products have always caught my eye, especially after having bought one of their peelers years ago. Recently, I started building a collection of kitchen supplies, so the Oxo Good Grips Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons were among some of the purchases that I made. I’ve been happy with this brand of products, so I figured I would see what how some of their other kitchen supplies compared.
Appearance & Packaging
The spoons didn’t come in a package; rather, they were twist-tied together. This was actually an advantage in being able to make a decision, instead of having the product tucked away in plastic casing.
Upon first look, these Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons look like a typical Oxo product, sporting trademark rubbery black handles. The rubber is called “Santoprene®”, which their website explains as processed rubber.
Each spoon is marked with the appropriate measurement on the black handle. The lettering is light, but easy to read.
Functionality
These are your typical measuring set, with rounded spoons (I have old ones at home that aren’t round). I like the feel of precise measurement, and being able to top off the spoon by scraping off excess ingredients with a knife if I need to.
The great thing about Oxo products are those trademark non-slip handles. Even if your hands are wet or greasy or whatnot, it is easy to hold on to your kitchen tools with that rubbery grip. However, these are plain rubber grips, not like some of their other kitchen products, which have lines of rubber sticking up. With measuring spoons this small, it wouldn’t really make sense to have those extra rubber grips.
Storage
The spoons stack in one another for easy storage.
The Oxo Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons are kept together with a stainless steel ring that is threaded through the tops of the handles. The ring has an opening so that the spoons can be removed or The spoons stack nicely, and can either be hung or placed in a drawer. I like being able to keep the spoons together, without losing a spoon from the set here or there.
Durability
One of my deciding factors was that this product is dishwasher safe. This makes for easy cleaning.
The spoons are also stainless steel, which is always good.
I haven’t had problems with any Oxo product wearing out or becoming damaged. I would have to say that the Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons are durable and of good value. I would expect them to last a fairly long time.
