You say that this gizmo is expensive but I didn't see the price in your review. How much is it?

A couple of years ago, I bought a GPS receiver with mapping software for my laptop and it cost only $80. I've only used it a couple of times, as it involves having my laptop open in the car, but it has really good information. One thing that this GPS system gives me with good accuracy is altitude. It also gives me instantaneous speed and accurate compass direction, and shows my position on a map. It does not have the weather stuff though, but all my cars have thermometers.

I thought that $80 was pretty cheap but I have to use a laptop, of course.

Anyway, nice review!

I wouldn't spend the money (I'm cheap), but it does sound like fun. But I am married to a meteorologist and have learned enough to know you can't get an accurate forecast from a barometer alone. Now, when they do one that downloads stuff from the weather satellites. . . .

Nice review!

. . . time I thought my choices were limited to either (1) my 40 year-old boy scout compass or (2) Onstar.

Thanks for educating me on another option.

Great posting.

They are pretty cool, though you're not the only one who's pointed out the weather innacuracy - A few friends and I ended up getting of clocks cleaned by a storm a few months back because of this unit - we stayed out on the island late-late sunday night expecting fair weather for the late-night drive home... Instead we got soaked and slaughtered by terrential downpours all the way home (Hamptons to Manhattan)!! Happily we all had a blast of a weekend, though we wouldn't have known it if you saw my monday-morning work face!

nice review, as always!
