kat_k1's Full Review: Pampers Swaddlers Diapers, Size N (Up To 10lbs), S...
When my daughter was born, weighing in at an average baby weight of 7lbs 10oz, I was a little surprised. Being my third child, we expected her to be bigger than the brother that came before her, who had been almost 9lbs at birth.
Needless to say, having expected a larger baby, I didn't buy ANY newborn diapers. I still hoped I would not have to, since I hadn't had to use them after my oldest son was 8lbs, but, as I've learned, things change.
Diapers run differently now and my poor little girl was swallowed up in size 1 diapers, no matter what brand. Worst of all, our typical brand of Huggies didn't work... she broke out in a horrid bout of diaper rash.
So, I sent my poor husband to the store with the only instructions being... I know pampers makes newborn diapers... just get them.
He came back having been very surprised to find that they weren't nearly as hard to find as they had been when our oldest was born. He was able to get 4 packs!
We didn't save the receipt, sure that we would be buying more.
I took them out to arrange on the changing table... they were so tiny and precious. The characters were on the front, the tabs on the back, and it was the same easy diapers, but how shocked was I that the tabs now were velcro, not the sticky stuff that sometimes ripped a diaper open.
When my daughter sounded the alert that she was awake and wet, I was eager to try these adorable diapers on her. I loved that they had the notch for the cord, even though, having used size 1 diapers from day 1 with my middle child, I knew it wasn't essential.
I put it on her and it fit beautifully, but I did notice that the cord notch was a little high. They go to all the trouble of trying to make it fit better doing that, but I had to tuck it inside to get a good fit.
Well, after her feeding, some time with mommy and daddy, her brothers and whoever else was around, she started crying again. I went to change her and was STUNNED... she was already breaking out in a rash!
I assumed it was just normal diaper rash, and put balmex on her bottom and got her settled for her nap.
Well, during the next few days, the rash wouldn't go away. Finally, I decided to try not using them and using one of the diapers from a pack of Babies R Us store brand diapers that I'd picked up for when she got bigger because of them being hypoallergenic.
They were still big on her, but I figured big was better than a rash.
Sure enough, the next day, the rash was gone.
However, the size 1s were leaking. So, to prevent the rash, I had to coat her bottom with vaseline at every diaper change.
Honestly, I thought you got what you paid for with diapers, but now that I learned of all the chemicals in these things, I'm only going to use hypoallergenic diapers in the future or use cloth.
The reactions my poor baby suffered from these diapers are why I won't buy Pampers diapers again.
We used up the one open pack and donated the rest to a shelter, because I just didn't want to have to coat her bottom at each change when I could use another, cheaper brand, and not deal with the rash.
