Pampers Swaddlers New Baby - Fits Our Small Newborn Well

Pros: Fold down tab, mesh and cloth feel, absorbs well
Cons: None for us, but more expensive than some diapers

These diapers came to us as a gift - in part of a basket full of baby goodies from my work when our second child, a little girl, was due. I had heard a little about "Swaddlers" from TV commercials and reading on-line, and hadn't really decided completely which diapers we were going to use with her. We basically had to try a number of different ones to see what was the best fit for our son, and figured with all the changes in the last 5 years we'd be trying some more to see what worked best for our daughter.
Huggies Newborn were the first diapers that we tried - they were the ones used in the hospital, and the remaining part of the pack were sent home with us. Our daughter was born smaller than our son, weighing in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces; and we had to run out and get some preemie clothes for her to go home and spend at least her first few weeks in. Though the Huggies Newborn fit her okay, we noticed when we got home that she often had leaks up the backside of her clothes - where the diaper ends. It was frustrating to us to not have the diaper contain her urine and to keep changing her outfits, so we made a note that we would not be repurchasing Huggies Newborn diapers for her once we used up what we had.
The only other packs of Newborn sized diapers (up to 10 pounds) we had in the house were these Pampers Swaddlers New Baby and Toys R Us brand Newborn diapers. Though both marketed for babies up to 10 pounds we quickly found out that the Toys R Us diapers were still too big for her body size - we could not get a tight enough fit around her torso and the diapers just looked ridiculous on her.
Thankfully the Pampers Swaddlers New Baby were the perfect fitting match. We noticed quickly how these diapers were "different". They seem to be made more "cloth like" on the outside and they held the urine well - so much so that we have had maybe only 1 leak so far out of the back. They also have a mesh inside that quickly pulls the wetness away from her and traps it into the diaper - so much so that any of us can quickly tell when she is wet - the diaper gets almost this gel-like "squishy" feel to it. Since she is being changed frequently and awake every few hours for changings, we have not noticed any major issues with changing her using these diapers or with the pooping she is doing. She is soley formula fed, but on a formula that is stated to be made close to breast milk, and we have noticed very seedy type stools that seem to be similar to this.
The Pampers Swaddlers New Baby Newborn come with various Seasame Street characters on the waistband and reminders to place the back on their back to sleep. There is also a very easy to use fold down front to help avoid contact with the umbilical cord until it falls off. Since hers was on longer, this has been a very nice, easy to use feature to have.
We also had these same diapers in the size 1 and they worked just as well. These diapers are only designed to go "so far" into a baby's growing up as the sizes are limited. They performed beautifully for the time that she was within the weight limits, and when she finally grew big enough we needed to switch to another brand and company. We have so far found the Pampers Swaddlers New Baby the best fitting, used diaper for our small newborn that we have tried, and we continued to purchase Pampers Swaddlers New Baby for the time that they made them in a fitting size for her.

* NOTE: This is the newest version of the Pampers Swaddlers (they are in a yellow packaging and say "New Baby" on them). These appear to be a different style and slightly different type from the original Pampers Swaddlers (with cut out notch for umbilical cord, etc) than previously on the market.
