| vinnie_333's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RP56 DVD Player |
I have found this player to be a great DVD player with all the versatility that people have come to expect from the more recent players. I am using the S-video output to a Sony television, so I can't comment on the Progressive scan ability (although I've heard it's very good) but the picture is superb.
I am using the optical cable out for 5.1 audio and it is excellent. Works great for DD and DTS. One odd quirk, when I first hooked up the player, I had to go into the options to turn the DTS decoder on. Why it couldn't be on by default, I don't know.
The versatility is great, although it was not the main reason i purchased it. It plays DVDs, audio CDs, CD-Rs and MP3 CD-Rs just great. It it rated to play CD-RWs as well, though I have not tried one yet. Players with weak lasers will often show their faults when playing music CDs, but I have noticed nothing but excellent performance from this player.
This player seems very solid and reliable. I plan my next large electronics purchase to be a widescreen TV, and this player should be working great when I get it.
