| Etherix's Full Review: Panasonic RP-HT355 Headphones |
I like these Panasonic headphones very much, but whether YOU do or not depends on what you are looking for in your headphones.
I moved up to these from some poor quality COBY behind-the-head headphones. In all my previous headphones, they had all eventually broken, working erraticaly. Sometimes music would come out only from one side, or sometimes it just wouldn't come out at all.
These headphones feel pretty solid, and I feel that I will not be having my old broken-one-sided-headphones problem ever again with them as long as I take care with them. If this is one of your worries, I believe you can trust that you will be safe with the RP-HT355.
A very nice feature in these headphones is the in-cord volume control. Many other headphones don't have this, so it is a plus for the RP-HT355.
The cord is very long. Very, very long. If you for some reason are going to be connecting your headphones to some sound device and... walking all over the room, then you will benefit from this. If you are only going to be using it in front of your computer like me, then you can keep the majority of the cord in a bundle and it won't be a hindrance. If you plan to plug them into a diskman and go out walking or some such activity, you will probably find the extra long cord a little annoying.
The bass - I read some reviews saying this headphone had terrific bass. I don't know what they mean by this... I don't personally have much knowledge regarding headphones, but what I consider to be good bass is what comes out of good subwoofers, and these headphones don't have anything particularly impressive in that aspect. The songs I play, ranging from bass heavy songs by No Doubt to light classical music sound pretty normal to me. Just don't buy these headphones expecting to be blown away by the bass... (like I was, haha). These headphones play the song normally (or what I consider normal) and it sounds good to me.
Comfort - These are spongy headphones. They have nice, soft padding (something I seemed to think only came with really expensive studio headphones), and your ears fit inside the donut-shaped pads. Your ears may get a little warm after a while. When this happens for me, I generally just notice that my ears are a little warm, but it doesn't bother me. On cold days, it was actually a welcome side-effect, and the thought had even crossed my mind to walk around wearing the headphones as earmuffs.
Speaking of earmuffs, these headphones are very good at blocking outside noise. Also, the sound is well confined to your ears, meaning people around you won't be hearing music leaking from your headphones.
Adjustments: the headphones are very easily adjustable to fit most any headsize. You probably won't have to worry about this at all unless you're a giant conehead.
The look: The headphones are big and fat. Honestly. I don't think they're particularly visually complimentary to any head size or shape, and sometimes might even make you look a little ridiculous if you plan to go for a walk outside wearing them... which is why I only use them with my computer, and use my small earbud headphones when I go out.
Lastly - These headphones come with an adapter. If you've ever seen those really big headphone plug-in holes and tried unsuccessfully plugging in your small little headphone cord into it, now you don't need to worry about that! You can plug into small headphone outputs, or put on the adapter and plug into the big headphone outputs.
Cool, for an amateur like me.
