| plasmauser's Full Review: Panasonic TH-42PD50U 42 in. EDTV TV |
Like many other reviewers here, I did a lot of research on Plasma TVs. I almost decided to go for LCD TVs since I feared about the extra power consumption by Plasma TVs. However, I then realized that it would only cost me additional $2 per month if I view it for 6 hours every day.
Ok, back to the TV.
My main concern was how would my analog cable and analog Satellite reception look on the TV. I am amazed how clear it is (use the 'Just' mode). I can see all my analog channels in 16:9 mode. I am just an ordinary consumer and no Videophile.
I don't miss the PIP, nor do I miss the absent VGA inputs.
Also, my DVD is connected through component inputs but using the composite wires. It's very clear. Don't spend any money on the monster cables. It's a ripoff.
I compared it with a Samsung SP-R4232 and at the end went with Panasonic due to the more positive remarks and it was cheaper too.
One tip : If you buy it using Home delivery from Circuit City, make sure you get the UPC code off the carton before they take the carton away. I guess it's another way for them to make sure you don't get to claim your rebate.
I have had this TV for a week and everything looks great. No complaints except for the missing A/V input. However, I realized, I can use the A/V input of my VCR to play my camcorder/camera output on the TV. So, that is a non-issue.
As far as the Silver border of the TV goes, it looks pretty cool. Doesn't look cheap atall as someone commented.
