| manky's Full Review: Pasta Light: Over 200 Great Taste, Low Fat Pasta R... |
I stumbled across this book in Costco. With hundreds of beautiful full color pages, and scrumptious pictures of each recipe I couldn't resist. Being a full-fledged pasta lover myself, this light version of cooking possibilities is a dream come true.
With a brief overview an explanation of different pasta types, and cooking techniques, the book walks you right into it's recipes and becoming a better cook with them. With recipes ranging from baked to salads, and including veggies to seafood... it is well organized into separate categories for your meal browsing.
My biggest complaint is that unfortunately, due to the size of the book (the bulk of the pages) it is still difficult for me to keep the book open at some points... a page holder may be necessary, or a home copier for a temporary page to glance at while cooking.
With a picture of each recipe included for enticement, you have a great view of what you might eat before starting. Including dietary information such as fat content, calories, carbohydrates, cholesterol, etc. is a great plus for anyone who is tracking that information for their health. Simple instructions with a well distinguished list of ingredients makes for great quick references. Also, they will mention possible accompaniments that work well with the dish. There's even a glossary in the back for the culinary inept... to learn what those words might mean!
Ranging from sweet and sour to spicy, and garlicy pesto to homestyle chili, there is something for everyone in this collection.
One of my personal favorites (so far) is the "Farfalle with Spinach, Garlic, and Ricotta"!
