uglybugg's Full Review: Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lemon Sage Thickening Shamp...
A few months ago I was wandering around Ulta with a friend when I stumbled upon Paul Mitchells Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo which is part of his Tea Tree CARE line. It appealed to me because Id like my hair to be thicker (or at least appear to be thicker) and the scent was out of this world. The price didnt seem outrageous so I bought it, tried it, and kind of like it although I dont really think it thickened my hair at all.
About Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo
According to PaulMitchell.com, products in the Tea Tree CARE line have refreshing properties which make them a perfect choice to rejuvenate the mind as well as body. The featured products in this are the Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner which I agree are rejuvenating and a joy to use.
Both products come in a dark green bottle with a white cap that you press on with your thumb and it pops open for dispensing the product. There is nothing on the bottle or the website which indicates which hair type the Lemon Sage products are best for so Im assuming that its for all hair types. I have very straight, very healthy, colored hair and it worked just fine. The shampoo itself is quite thick and rich although it is completely colorless and clear.
My experience
After rinsing any product from my hair I apply a small amount of Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo to my palms and then rub vigorously into my scalp. The shampoo is very thick and rich so it stays on my hands while they are in transit to my head. I hate it when shampoo drips off and onto the shower floor instead of ending up on my head where it belongs. The bottle is nice and soft and does not hurt my hands to squeeze the shampoo out. Even so I store it upside down in my shower because it is so thick that it tends to take some shaking to get the shampoo down to the dispensing end otherwise.
This shampoo quickly works up into a thick lather that has the most pleasing fragrance. It smells like lemons, herbs, and a touch of minty tea tree oil. The scent is fresh, revitalizing, and unisex. The lather rinses quickly and easily and leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean. It must be somewhat clarifying as my hair feels almost overly clean and I MUST condition after using this shampoo otherwise Id never get a comb thru my hair after showering.
Paul Mitchell Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo comes in three sizes - 2.5 ounces, 10.14 ounces, and 33.8 ounces. I got the 10.14 ounce bottle which was about $12.50 at Ulta.
Even when following up with the conditioner of the same name, Lemon Sages scent does not linger on my hair which is very unfortunate as it is a scent Id like to enjoy throughout the day. The other disappointing aspect is that my hair does not feel any thicker after using this product. Not that I truly expected it would. Im long hip to the fact that products rarely do what they claim. Still, I like the scent and that after using the matching conditioner my hair was shiny, soft, and clean so all is not lost.
Bottom Line
Id use this shampoo again as I really enjoy the revitalizing scent in the morning and that it leaves my hair soft, manageable, and looking good.
