| daddym's Full Review: Pedigree Brand Choice Cuts Dog Food |
When it comes to our dogs hard food we dont really mess with it. She has eaten the same dry food for most of her adult life. A few years ago we started mixing it half and half with a Senior formula dog food, to give her the extra added nutrition for her advanced years. We also give her some kind of wet pet food every night after we eat dinner. We switch back and forth between Alpo and Pedigree, and sometimes store brands, but with the recent pet food recalls, we have decided to stick with Pedigree for the mean time because we know that it is not one of the re-called products. For our cat for the time being we are sticking with 9 Lives.
We kind of mix and match flavors but try to only use the same kind of food. Our dog seems to be comfortable with chopped beef in a gravy sauce. So many times a week we will give her Pedigree Choice Cuts in Sauce with Beef this culinary treat for dogs comes in two different sized cans 13.2 Oz. and 22.0 Oz. The can has a pull top lid which is nice because you dont have to fumble around for a can opener.
When you open the can you will see that this really does not look half bad. There are chucks of beef in side the can cut into aprox. 1 inch, by 1 inch squares. The squares are liberally covered with a sauce that looks and smells like gravy. The dog food does not smell that bad either. It has a tiny bit of that dog food smell but for the most part is smells like beef in gravy. It looks very similar to the same type of dog food made by Alpo although the Pedigree seems to be just a tad bit darker in color. But for the most part they look and smell very similar. Both brands are made with real beef.
The dog food should be served at room temperature and any unused dog food should be placed in the refrigerator, but should be used or discarded after 3 days. If you are mixing this with dry food (which is what we do), you should mix 1/4 of dry with ¼ cup of wet, and of course go up from there if your dog needs a larger serving. So go up by ¼ cup each increments. I dont really recommend feeding a dog only soft food because it is important for the health of their teeth for them to eat some hard food. But if you are only feeding this food to your dog here are the amounts that the manufacturer recommends.
Weight of Dog Cans Per Day
Up to 10 pounds ½ to 1
10 to 25 1 to 2
25 to 50 2 to 3 ½
50 to 75 1 ½ to 4 ½
75 to 140 4 1/2 to 7 1/2
Our dog is around 55 lbs. We give her one can a day but she has access to dry food all day, and we mix it with more dry food when we serve this. She was a dry food only dog for several years but we started giving her the can food to help her keep weight on and so that we could mix medicine in with the dog food if need me.
Our dog prefers the choice cuts over the other type of wet food that is ground of meat and resembles refried beans to me. She will eat that if she has to but she often wont clean her dish like she does with the Pedigree Prime Cuts.
As for ingredients the manufacturer claims that the Pedigree Prime Cuts are highly digestible, and the food is nutritionally complete. The ingredients (taken directly from the can) are as follows:
Sufficient water for processing, poultry, meat by products, wheat flour, beef, wheat gluten, salt caramel coloring, sodium tripolyphosphate, Natural flavors, guar gum, vegetable oil, minerals (potassium cholirde, zinc, sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodidel), sodium Alginate, natural smoke flavor, Z=Xanthan gum, onion powder, bay leaves, vitamins (vitamin E, A & D3 supplements, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin b1), Biotin, garlic powder, sodium nitrate (for color retention).

Pedigree Choice Cuts in Sauce Beef has worked out really well for us. Our dog really likes it. She almost always completely clears her plate when it is served to her. As a human being it reminds me of beef in gravy that I would eat, and serve over noodles. It doesnt smell bad either. I think it is probably pretty tasty to our dog. Also the nice amount of gravy makes it easy to mix with and coat dry dog food as well. It also makes it good for sneaking in medications to the food.
The price is also very good, it rivals Alpo for the lowest price main brand dog foods. We do not prefer either of the brands over the other they both work great for us and my dog really likes both of them. So we would definitely recommend Pedigree Choice Cuts in Sauce Beef dog food.
